Default CAI suggestion

Hi guys. Looking at a CAI for my 2010 5.4L SCREW. I know they don't do a lot on their own, mostly looking to add a bit more growl to start, as I know there's not a lot of other benefits unless adding a tune and/or exhaust. Just wondering as my accessory dealer has access to two kinds for this truck, what may be a better choice? K&N or Air Raid? The AR is over a $100 more than the K&N kit. Any comments would be helpful in deciding. Thanks.

Do the Gott's mod' (remove the inlet snorkle to the airbox) and get the same effect (growl) and it's *free*.

Go with K&N 57-2575 dyno proven to add 12.47 more HP and adds some growl ( sounds like you added a catback exhaust when you punch it). Wont be dissapointed .

I'd like to see a link to that source. I've not seen any CAI data that supports increased performance on the latest Gen F150. If you are doing it solely for sound that's fair game then.

I've got to say, mine really does sound better when you "punch" it...and it is just anecdotal evidence but it does seem a little quicker on the road, probably just me though.

Regarding aftermarket CAIs ...
  • there are no to little performance gains. *And if accompanied with a tune (add another $300-$500), 99% of the gains are from the tune alone.
  • any increased air flow comes with reduced filtration.
  • oiled filters contaminate the MAF sensor which results is decreased performance and MPG.
  • cannot be $$$$$ justified for performance and/or MPG
Do it for the engine bay cosmetics. Do it for the growl. Do it for any other reason and you're wasting your $$$$$
Regarding OEM, stock air intake system ...
  • already CAI (air comes from the wheel well).
  • MORE than enough air CFM to meet/exceed the requirements of a non-uber-mod'ed engine.
As noted ... For 2009-2010 F-150s remove the airbox's intake snorkel to get the same effect as an aftermarket CAI - increased growl, no to little performance gain, BUT it's *FREE*

note: The 2011+ airbox intake snorkel INCREASED IN SIZE and removing it is unnecessary.

Looks cool though...and mine is not oiled, so I guess my MAF sensor is ok. just goofing...
