My turn. 2010 FX4 . On my way in to work this morning, raining , had the rear defrost on and just like everyone else POW! Thought it was a rock, got to work didn't notice until leaving this evening, same window. Before I researched this and checked the forum out I called the dealer right when I got home and explained to him almost exactly what happened and asked him if this has happened before that he's heard of, nope he says and tells me that Ford does not cover glass issues.......Makes me almost as happy as having my second set of 20" rims replaced a month and a half ago that were pitting and it was caused by my neglect......I love my truck and keep it immaculate , but I' m getting tired of these people telling me I'm SOL on these defects ....
My rear window blew today. Also when I turned the rear defrost on for about 5 minutes. Also the passanger side. This should be a recall, what is going on here?

- 2010 F150 XLT Lariet - signed up to put out some information and maybe get some - the other morning i left work and on the way out of the parking lot i hit the rear window defroster - dove about 3 miles to gas stations to fill up - while filling up i was sitting in front seat when i heard a loud bang - thought somthin fell on the roof - looked and nothing there - once the pump kicked off i got out and stepped back to fill hose - looked up and smoke was bellowing from the inside rear corner of the passanger rear side window - jumped in and turned off the defroster and then jumped in the back of the truck and started throwing water from an empty ice chest on the smoldering smoking window gasket - had a heck of a time putting out the 'fire' - ho the loud bang was the pasanger side rear window shattering from the heat generated from the gasket burning - did a google search and only hit of this kinda thing was a guy in Canada on a 2010 rapture sounded like much more damage guess he didnt have water handy - anyone have any additional info on this happening and what was the cause - told ford dealer good thing wife wasnt driving and just pull into car port and get out - could have burned the house down...

If this happened to my truck and Ford refused to fix it I would start raising hell with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Reports. I would find anyone I could to voice a complaint too. Ford needs to fix this issue for the people that have this problem.

That's right add me to the list, I have a 2010 FX4. It happened to me two weeks ago. I've gone to my dealership had pictures taken and was refused I then called Ford Canada, my dealership has now called back and now I have to go back to the dealership for more pictures. I hope they cover it there's an obvious defect.
The raptor link pictures is what my 2010 Ford F150 Platinum looks like this morning. Frost this morning and 36 degrees, wanted a warm truck so turned on the defroster and seat. Went back inside and was waving good bye to my husband when I noticed a small spark/flame on the left bottom corner of the passenger back window. Heard a loud pop and started running to turn the truck off. I didn't notice that the window was shattered, still intact though, until I was checking out the burn spot! Taking it in this afternoon and see what they say. I'll update if anyone is interested.
This morning I dropped off my daughter at school and not even five minutes later the same issue as you all have had. I was driving in my 2010 Lariat when I noticed smoke coming out of the passenger side rear defroster window. I quickly pulled over to find this becoming a fire. It began as smoke, then spark, and then flame. Fortunately, I had a bottle of water in my truck, which I began to pour on it to stop. It progressively got worse with the sparks, but eventually went out. During the burn and trying to distinguish the fire, the "explosion" occurred.
I immediately took this to my local Ford dealer and began to research this. Upon this forum along with a few others, I noticed this is a growing issue amongst our trucks. I received a call from the dealership claiming it is not covered under the factory warranty nor our extended warranty. I'm currently on 40,800 miles under our extended warranty: PremiumCARE. I printed out all of this along with all of the other forums and he basically discredited the forum and says it's not a common issue and it takes more than six people in a forum to call it a problem. I explained to him my truck was literally on fire and had I not had a bottle of water to distinguish it, I was miles away from a store or any water source and there would have been a bigger issue than replacing some electrical stuff and a window considering it went from smoke to fire in a matter of 10-15 seconds.
After speaking with him and several managers and elaborating that my 3-year old daughter was sitting in the car seat directly in front of where it happened not even five minutes prior. He claimed it was nothing that would be covered or that'd be at the fault of Ford and continued to disregard any of the previous issues or solutions you all have had. He agreed it was an electrical issue (something specifically covered under my warranty) but would not budge at all. His managers and their managers won't budge and said they called to confirm with Ford that it's not going to be covered. I know this is rubbish based on all of your experiences.
Where do I go from here? Any recommendations or words of wisdom?

I would take plenty of pictures, including a melted/burnt area. Forward it all to the NTSB, with a complaint. Also forward a link to this thread. This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Any defect that can cause a fire should be a major concern.
Sorry to hear about that. This also happened to my day's 2010 XLT last year. He was driving and thought someone threw something at his rear window but after reading these posts it was absolutely an electrical design failure. He had to make an insurance claim which is unfortunate because it is absolutely a design flaw that Ford should be stepping up and fixing. Good luck...
Obviously Ford knows something because they changed something after 2010 because from what I've read this ONLY happens to 2010 F150's.
