We had a very nice schoolteacher buy her first new car from us, Acura. She had the car about a week and called to say ther was a fire inside the car. Went to her school and sure enough it was still full of smoke. Alfter a litte inestigation we found that the cute crystal thing she hung from the rear view mirror reflected the sun just like a magnafying glass would do. Burnt a nice line from one side to the other. Fireman said this was a first.

Yup, that's me!

OP, please post your findings from your dealer as to possible causes. My dealer still hasn't found what caused it. I'd like to follow this up with Ford Corporate.

This happened to me this morning. I have a 2010 F150 Lariat. It was about 30 degrees outside. I started my truck with the remote starter. It was warming up for about 10 minutes. I then went into the truck and re-started it. At the same time, I turned on the front and rear defrosters. I grabbed my ice scraper and scraped the front windshield.

When I got back into the truck, I was about to put her in reverse when I heard a loud bang on the roof of the truck. It sounded like a baseball hit the roof. I opened the sunroof and didn't see any issues. I assumed the metal popped from warming the truck up. When I put the car in reverse, and looked out the rear I noticed the rear window had shattered on the passenger side. The tinting of the window kept it all in place.

I took the car to the dealership this morning. They said they would investigate the issue. They said they have never seen or heard of this type of thing occurring. As of now, I still haven't heard whether or not they will replace the window

Wish me luck....

Wow it sounded like a time bomb just timed out.
Since I don't have the rear defroster, what's the fuse amp rating for the defroster?

this is what happens when you don't use a non-conductive adhesive on an electrically charged piece of glass...

If your truck is still under warranty and there isn't aftermarket tint on the rear window, then they will replace it. The rear slider window is one unit and will need to be replaced as a whole along with the surrounding rubber trim that actually had caught fire on my truck.

In my case, if that is the cause then it's Ford's fault as the tint on my rear window is OEM.

Default exploding rear window

Hi All,I signed up also,to find out about this window thing. I was on my way to work on a frosty morning (-9c) when i put my rear defroster on,travelled about half a mile and a loud bang, also thought something hit my roof, check it and was okay, contiue to drive and discovered rear passenger side window with defroster shattered but intact. In ford dealer now,and they will take pictures.Thats 2 that i have heard of so far. Will find out in a couple days if this warranty. 15 months old and worked ok last winter, thanks.
