I'm having issues with my defroster, but, the mirrors appear to work. I have been poking around and I keep hearing about the complete replacement of the rear glass. Where is the switch/relay or whatever it is that goes bad? I see where just the mechanism (cables and motor assembly) can be ordered. Will that contain what is needed?

At this point as long as the mirrors work I'm happy, but, it would be nice to have the light on the switch lite so I know when it is on.

Milner O'Quinn Ford in Harrisonville is denying this to be covered under my premium care warranty although the glass isn't physically damaged, just the defrost not working. Now stating I will owe 600 for repairs in parts if this is fixed. Aside from this being a safety issue with my rear glass eventually exploding, I will have to deal with a nice repair bill if Ford doesnt sack up and cover their fault - If your changing part numbers due to excessive failures, NHTSB is investigating the part failure, and you have changed manufacturers, you probably need to admit fault and replace the part, ecspecially when the mentioned vehicle is under warranty. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about getting this done?

Try a different dealer, if you have the premium warranty your defroster should be covered. Milner is notorious for refusing warranty work. You also need to look at your warranty paperwork, it will state everything that is covered and not covered and go from there.

sounds like my issue with my rear defroster. Bought my truck new exactly a year ago this month and currently has 9k miles. I have 3 lines out of the whole defroster not working, the rest of the defroster works fine so I wasn't that concerned about it. I took it in (got it towed) because my power steering assist, hill decent and AdvanceTrac was flashing on my dash. the truck's power steering went out so I called Ford roadside and they towed it in. while I was talking to the service rep about all of those things wrong, I told him about my rear defroster. Again, it works only 3 lines of it doesn't so I figured while I was there, have them take a look at it. he said they'll take a look. This was on a Thursday, early morning before work. I get a call from them stating they'll be able to fix the truck, but not until Monday, offered no rental or no compensation (not that I was expecting it but hopefully they could be courteous in how I would be without my truck for 4.5 days). I get a call Monday afternoon stating the truck is fixed and I can pick it up. He says everything was fixed but I was denied my rear defroster being fixed under warranty. they claim it was damaged by the local tint shop. I bought it during the winter last year, I did not get tint until late spring time. In that period of time, I used my defroster at times and it had the problem then. I did not take a picture of it nor did I take it in. I tell them that and still, at that they won't fix it. Talked to the service manager which was no help and told me the same thing. I reach out on here to a rep along with twitter. A rep calls me and is echoing the same thing about the tint shop. I tell him the it was doing it BEFORE the tint was installed. they basically don't believe me. Before we got off the phone he said Ford can probably cover 50% of the cost to replace the whole glass. I said no, 100% covered under warranty is how it should be handled. He tells me he would call me back in a few days once he's investigating it fully. It's been 2 weeks and no call.
@FordService, thanks for nothing so far.

Sorry to go off the deep end on your thread.

My truck is in for service for this issue now. The tech said the rear window needs to be replaced to remedy the problem. I am 2 months out of warranty. The dealer is contacting Ford to see if they will cover the repair. Plus I have DM'ed the Service dept on this forum.

This is the 2nd time the rear defroster has stopped working. The first time they replaced the dash switch under warranty. This time the dash switch glows, the side mirrors defrost but not the rear window. And now it's Winter...

Fingers crossed.

I have spent 2 hours on the phone this evening.

First call consisted of me calling ford customer "care" my ***, she stated immediately, that I was out of warranty although I had the best esp I could buy and still covered but didn't cover glass. HORSE ****- then I was told that the case was closed and would not be investigated further even after asking for a manager, she stated that I had no business contacting a manager. My esp clearly states electronic components are covered glass breakage is not. My glass isn't broken but my defrost doesn't work. Milner said the part number was worthless and denied. He said if he could have a magic way to do it he would. Again, I don't buy this. I will be filing a claim with the better business bureau tomorrow, and pursue either a reimbursement for my esp, or funds to have the back glass repaired by a dealer/ or associated glass company. Once that is done, I plan on contacting the Missouri attorney generals office, maybe then it'll catch the attention of some over paid manager who can take the time out of his busy day. I have purchased too many new vehicles from ford and several used to be placed in the dump without a resolution. This is a known issue, and is a safety issue. If this window blows out with my 3 year old in the backseat, ford will be catching some serious flack and catching some NHTSB flack. I love my fords, but this alone is enough to ensure this is my last new truck.

Esp when called stated the same thing, they at least took the time to call Milner and ask for the prt number. When you change your part number and change manufacturers, your obviously having issues, suck it up buttercup and cover my back window, I paid for the option, I paid for the extended coverage, it needs to be done.
