Rear main seal or oil pan gasket?

Recently discovered an oil leak but not sure where its coming from. Thought maybe some of you might have some advice. Oil on both sides of pan. Checked pan bolts and they are tight.

Oil is on both sides of oil pan but seems more is near starter. Also oil seems to appear on fwd side of oil pan.

I'll go with pan gasket. If it was the rear main seal. I would think you would have a drip at that center drain area on the flywheel cover at transmission side. You can see the channel on your 2nd picture.

Could a bad PCV valve cause overpressure in pan causing leak ?? dunno, but I would check it if you have one.

Investigate further and start simple.

Is it for sure oil? Had a leak and mine was an O ring on a coolant hose that would only leak when the hose was shifting around.

Mine looked just like that and it was the rear main seal. Just enough oil to know there is a leak but wasn't dripping like I would expect for a rear main seal.

Ugh, mine goes in tonight for something similar, I didn't want to do it in 15deg weather. Looks like the pan gasket, but not sure.

The center channel didnt have a drip which made me think it was the oil pan. Its definitely oil and was 2 quarts low. Thanks for the tips!

I would clean it with brake cleaner and a rag and check it after a day of driving. Would help narrow it down.
