Best advice - disable the rear defrost. The problem was never fixed.

I agree with that my 2014 FX4 has had four (4) rear windows replaced in it. I was told there is a TSB or something like that from Ford that they just replace them don't even troubleshoot. I am now out of warranty so hope this last one doesn't take a dump. a very common expensive problem once warranty is done!

So I just bought a 2013 FX4 and when I try out the Rear Defroster, the light doesn't come on and nothing heats up. Had no idea this didn't work when I bought it. Didn't think to test it, cause well it's summer lol

I have done the open/close on window. Nothing changed.

Should I just take it to a dealer?

It is a common problem. Like others, I had to have my rear window replaced. Fortunately I am still covered by the basic warranty.
Strange thing tho, after assuming it was the window for a couple months, the sun happened to shine just right and I noticed the button was just a bit newer than the rest.
Maybe in some cases it could simply be the switch and they tried that first, before taking out the window with mine.

I need to check the fuse too. Keep forgetting too. I read it could the issue as well. Just weird for such a new truck that's hardly been used to have it go bad

I know it. My rear window even in the winter hardly ever fogged up so I don't think I used mine between 5 to 10 times and it failed on me.
I'm just thankful I didn't get the defrost that shattered the rear windows!

I just had this issue on my 2013 XLT - like you, I ensured the window was closed. Exact same issue (light wouldn't come on, wouldn't defrost, etc.)

It ended up being the actual defrosting grid itself....and there was some going back and forth, as I was originally told that it 'wasn't covered under warranty.' I told them "I don't buy that....ExtraCare says it's covered, so find out how to cover it." LOL

If you're still within the original 36K, *OR* you have an ESP that covers the defrosting grid (and according to their site, the BaseCare, ExtraCare and PremiumCare all cover it), then it should be covered.

The issue they had was that they were attempting to use the part # for the normal back glass - I think it was 342006. If they use that part #, it'll read as not covered. HOWEVER, if they use 342006H, which is the CORRECT part # for the heated back glass, it will show as covered in their system.

I hope this helps.

Mine did the same thing, and after reading this I took her to the dealer. I have the extended warranty from Easycare. They said it was a short in the grid from the slider to the window so the whole thing needs replaced. The window is $635 with 2 hours of labor, so just short of $900 total. Easycare is covering it all and the rental car for a day!! Ford has a 2year replacement on the window themselves once I have it installed (had to be ordered) All I'll owe is the $100 deductible! I'm glad I got the extended warranty for once!
