Default Reaching out for help, long distance deal. Having some issues with the dealer...

Hello Guys,

I have a deposit on a vehicle we are fighting the dealer for all the information we have been requesting, since we are over 6 hours from the dealer, we are trying not too drive that far, to then just turn around and go home empty handed. Because of an under stated true condition. At first they were ok to work with, but turned on me quick, when I started asking questions.

Here is the back story, it's a Ruby Red 14 S-CREW EB SB 4X4 FX4 with the Appearance Package, one owner, clean CarFax, looks good, fair undercarriage condition for the location.

It's in Hurricane West Virginia at a dealer that has fairly not so good ratings, from what we could find. The sales rep has been somewhat hard to work with, combative to come degree, so we kinda went a few rounds, the sales manager has been about the same. Saying things like, well if you do trust us, we do not have to sell it to you, someone else will buy it.

They did send us detailed videos as requested, we instructed them what to take and how to take it and told us the vehicle was like new, very clean, the paint does seem good from what we can see, minor issues, the interior looks ok now that they cleaned off all the Armour All, seems like nothing majorly wrong in that department, it deff needs detailed, but they keep hiding things from us that we see in the video(s) and than when we catch them, they say they didn't see it or its not there or when we see a weird mod, they say they have no idea what that is.

After they removed the Armour All off

Basically dancing around the truth of full disclosure, case in point we spotted a fairly large dent by pausing the video in the drivers side door jam(s) and the sales reps said it was not there, no way does that truck have a single dent on it, like in the door jam, our dent guy looks for dents and he never saw it, he gets paid to remove dents, so there are no dents, the manager said I drove that truck as a demo and I never saw it either, you expecting to much out of a used truck?

Then they called and said their dent guy fixed it and we are lucky that he was there that day, but it's not perfect they said, they can't get it out completely. They omitted certain items, like some odd mod on the dash beside the consul drivers side, to hang something from, that another member here spotted from a thread I posted, I missed that one, the bed rails seems to have some of plastic chewed up on the sides and so on. But those rails can be replaced for a few hundred, so that not a deal killer, but seemly a little PITA to do the work.

Here is the after dent fix, I can't really tell:

At first look the truck looks great, low miles, less than 20k on the clock, but we are so far away and we don't want someone else issues, we already saw one with 6k on the clock that was really bad in person, but looked great in photos. Also they never did supply us with an true inspection report, just a clean CarFax, they said they did not have an inspection report? It's not a CPO and only a 30 day warranty, due to the active recall and so we are just questioning everything now since they have been fairly hard to work with.

Here is a direct quote from the rep:

"Not sure what you mean by inspection report. I dont have any sort of maintenance report other than what shows on carfax. I can get an oasis. The vehicle rides great and is in great shape. It is being driven and it is being looked at by other customers fairly often. My concern is that what you are expecting out of a used vehicle is not going to meet your standards no matter what. Wear and tear occurs with every mile driven, all you can hope is that the previous owner took excellent care and pride in their vehicle. Which i believe is true in this case. I can promise you that you will find blemishes that i didn't notice or think were bad. So, let me tell you ahead of time..... This truck in NOT perfect. It is luckily what most people would consider a VERY clean used vehicle. So i will get you and oasis monday and anything else within my power. The price sounds right just let me confirm."

But as I stated in some other threads, it's the truck we want to buy not the dealer, we will never see them again, so we can't let that really affect our decision, can we?

So we are really not sure what to think but we still like the truck in theory, videos and photos can never tell the whole truth can they, the price maybe a little high considering some items they are not disclosing and the mechanical condition is something we can't tell from this far away at all. They also stated even if we drive down, they will no come down on the price at all, they gave us over the phone, which is not much less than the asking from their website.

So I'm reaching out to the great members here that maybe live close by, that can go take a look themselves in person, as a few people suggested on here. Let me know if I can return the favor in some way, maybe buy you a dinner or something.

I'm also not here to take advantage of people, I'm here to learn and help and hopefully be good future contributor as well.

Thank you ever so much for the consideration and any help that can be provided. Perhaps this idea is all bad and I just helped someone else find the truck of there dreams.

Sounds like you got emotionally attached to the truck. I probably would've walked by now if a dealer was talking to me in the ways you said they were.

Yeah that is what we are thinking, honesty I'm trying to stay objective about the whole thing.

If they're saying "if you don't buy it, someone else will," then they have zero concern for you. Let someone else buy it and vote with your wallet.

If you are concerned make the drive and see the truck its a big investment what's the worst that could happen you spend the weekend doing it and you can rest assured that either you spent your money wisely or avoided a money pit.

We are really leaning that way, we like the idea of this model, but something tells me there is more here than they are disclosing.

This is the best advice in this situation. There is NO WAY I would go through with this deal. If it were me, I'm sure I would make myself crazy if I went through with it. I'm "The Guy" who would find all sorts of reasons I shouldn't have bought it after I got it home, given the way this deal seems to be going. I would end up finding all the other issues I should have noticed. I have to feel good all the way through the purchase process when I'm buying a vehicle.
I would run from this deal, and wait for a better "purchase experience"!
But that's just how I'm wired.

Yeah that's kinda how I am as well OCD to a degree. So I figured I would get some variances of objectivity from others and maybe someone close to go look, but only if they are close by. I think this deal will die either way, I was thinking the same thing before I even posted this thread...

6 hours one way... that's is nothing but an investment... leave at 4 get there by 10, 2-4 hrs looking at it, home by 9-10... Don't see the problem considering the cost vs reward..
