ii have owned 4x4 all my life. All but my last two had floor shifters. Actually back in the 70's and 80's before so-called shift on the fly was around you still had it. Just the manufacturers caught on. You could go from 2hi to 4hi and never stop. To go to low you had to stop. Just like with the ****. However unless you break your arm you can always get a shift from the manual shifter. But it is very expensive when servo motors go bad and you find that little **** no longer makes the shift for you.

See, the **** on the dash send an electronic signal to a motor that shifts the transfer case shift fork which shift the transfer case. This is the same shift fork that the mechanical lever linkage is attached to.
Same operation just no worry of motor failure preventing you from shifting into 4wd. Once motor or switch ****s the bed you can't shift into 4wd whereas those lucky enough to have floor shifter will have no problems.
So once again, yes I want a floor shifter!
