I see this very informative thread has been resurrected, so I'll just add my thanks to the OP and others that provided the info about making this mod very easy to do.

This was about the first mod I did to my truck when I got it last summer. It came with black tow hooks up front, and I saw a set of chrome ones on eBay for $72. I didn't really know how much they should be, but that sounded okay - and turned out to be a good deal!!

I put the chrome ones up front and was going to sell the black ones here on the forum - that is until I saw this thread!!

I stopped by a local nut/bolt/fastener shop, and they referred me to a marine supply store down the street that had lots of boat trailer stuff like suspension parts - including the grade 8 square u-bolts of the correct size.

It just took a couple minutes each side to bolt the hooks onto the hitch, then I shot the exposed threads and nuts with some black paint, and done!

A great and very easy to do mod!!

Bob

For anyone looking for some hooks.

The ones I got are in great shape. I'm hoping to have time tomorrow to put them on.

Awesome find man, I just ordered a pair. Now I just need to find some square bolts... Anyone find anything online yet? Haven't found a shop around here that can do it.

No need for the squared off u bolt. Get a piece of plate steel, drill holes in it and use a good grade bolt.

Finally scored a used set from ebay, should be here tomorrow. I saw Northern tool had U bolt sets for leaf springs of varying sizes and some looked as though they would fit for this project.

Unsure of the grade, but being for leaf spring packs think they are up for the job?

U-Bolts look like the best option to me if you've got the factory hitch. That sheet metal piece on the top visible Diabo8c4's pic looks like it would interfere with a plate.

Local "spring service" shop said he could make them in a couple minutes. My guess is anywhere with an interstate and decent size city will have at least one.

I had a couple U-bolts made today and will be installing my chrome hooks this week sometime. Glad I stumbled on this lil mod. Will definitely look cool I think. And to think, I gave the tow hooks from my '08 away. . . .
