Wink Update to my 9-27-2018 post

Tothemax - The dealership wanted $795 to perform the diagnostic evaluation, another $750 for a replacement unit (2-3 weeks wait on the order), I was looking at another $105 to "flash" the new unit, and I'm sure that associated labor for the removal/re-install would have brought the total cost to right around $2,000.

I'm not sure why I would pay that $2K, or your suggested $700 for an installed aftermarket unit, when I've already had my original unit repaired for $160, removed and re-installed at only the cost of about 1.5 hours of my own labor. I'm also not sure why anyone else would spend that kind of money if they're experiencing the same audio system issues and are able to follow the lead and suggestions of several of us on this chain??

Thanks for your offer though!

700$ well spent on a great aftermarket upgrade. Touch screen is nice. Lots of features.

NEVER take your truck to that dealer ever again. That's ridiculous to the point of being criminal. Most places including reputable dealers charge a standard 1hr labor fee for diag.

If you could experience the difference an aftermarket system will make compared to oem, you would purposely drive to the local lake and toss your factory radio in.

$700 is actually a decent price for a system far and away superior than anything Ford ever installed on the line.

With the above said, I went top of the line in my truck. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500X00....html?tp=49934 It's all very subjective so if you think $700 is high, don't click on the link I posted above lol.

Default aftermarket Alpine system

Rnlcomp / Tothemax - I can't deny that the Alpine X009-FD2 system is likely far superior to the OEM unit (link provided by Rnlcomp) but the link also says it's a $2300 system, discounted at -$700 (down from $3K).

Tothemax - I don't suppose this is the system you would install for $700 is it?

I went with a pioneer with a 5 year extended warranty for 50$ extra.
Amazon Amazon

The price has dropped s little since I had it installed as its "old" technology.

I would have to look back but maybe I paid less than 700. It was last year that I had it installed.

I started to have this problem in my '13 F150. I am guessing it's the ACM. Anyone just pulled it out and just installed a aftermarket radio? I'm thinking about doing it and just wanted to know how big of a pain it will be to do.

I pulled the negative terminal from the battery and reconnected and it did reset it but the next morning... Time flashing in the center of the screen.

any ideas? (other than going to the dealer)

Thanks

Same problem, I fixed it. Hopefully this might help some of y'all....

I deleted my video since it only worked for a few days then the same problem happened again. I have since discovered that I can just pull the wires from the back and reseat them the radio will work for a few days and then start flashing again. It’s kind of weird. I don’t think it’s my actual wiring harness. I think the motherboard and the soldering points are iffy. I saw somewhere someone took the motherboard out baked it at 385 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 mins (don’t touch while cooling). I may end up doing that to reflow the solder.
