Is this simply a non sophisticated battery charger or could there be something with the ring that causes the errant readings??

Looks like I'll be getting my 3rd battery soon. There's other screwy things going on here. Started getting the message then took a 1000 mile trip. After the first leg the message went away. Then after getting home, the next day it came back after taking a few short stop and go trips. Next day doing the same the message was gone for 1/2 a day of similar stop and goes. Haven't had this situation before. It either came on or it didn't.
I've had the ring on mine bypassed for over a year. As for as I know it is simply measure excess current that would be drawn from the battery if there is a current drain problem. It is the same kind of pick up used on a clamp meter that I use on the job.
As for the charger, try a "battery tender" intelligent charger. It will do a better job for you.
Have you checked your charging voltage with the engine running to see if it's in spec?

I'm getting 14.5v with engine running.

Battery Tender?? That seems to be a brand of charger. The one I have is automatic, stepping down to 2amps when charged. Schumacher Ship N Shore. SSC1500A. Not against buying something better but wouldn't this be sufficient? In theory at least?

Sorry I referred to a specific brand there. What I meant was that there are intelligent battery charger/maintainers. I'm using the "battery tender" myself and have been having what I think is a decent amount of luck with it. It tops up the battery when it's low and also cycles the battery from time to time to simulate what the battery would go through under normal operations.
The unit was only about $75 and it's fairly small. So I attached it in the engine compartment and hardwired it in so all I half to do it plug it in and forget it while the truck is parked.
Still on my first replacement battery from Ford so I'm happy with the results so far.

Dealer couldn't get me in Wednesday. Brought it in this morning. They hooked up the tester and showed battery was bad instantly. Installed new battery and reprogrammed the BMS. The BMS update included the "low battery" indicator now at 30% instead of the 50% it was previously set at.

2013 Ford F-150 eco Super crew with the battery saver message as well. It started about a month ago. I've put on hundreds of miles since then so I have no idea what started it. I have an amp and sub but that's been installed for over one year with no issues. I left a message at my dealer asking for an appointment to have this POS looked at. How frustrating. I'm horrified to see that this has 112 pages of messages on it. Un-freaking-believable.

Thanks!

Hi Crystal, I've had this message intermittently with my 2013 F-150 since I purchased it. However, over the last month I've had this and it won't go away no matter how long I drive the truck or if I charge the battery with a battery charger.

I've PM'd you with my information and I've left a message with the dealership asking for an appointment. I remember having the dealership check this out about 6 months ago, but it didn't change anything. I'm hoping with your guidance we can get this solved.

Thank you,

Jeff

Had mine in yesterday for this. Last time they could not replicate the message, so couldn't do anything. This time, it came on instantly after shutting the truck off.....and this is even after the drive there. Battery tested a little low, but after load test it was fine so no replacement there....I told them about SSM 44750 and they did perform that after looking into it. Makes me wonder had I not mentioned it to them if they would have done it or not. Hope this keeps it away...my truck sits most of the week, 4500 miles on a 20 month old 2013...but it has always started, so at least I don't have that issue.

I also recently had this issue popping up randomly no matter if it was a 10 min drive or a 40 min drive. Booked an appointment the other day and they did the SSM 44750 all on there own. Battery resting voltage still measured around the same 12.3v before and after the update which leads me to believe they just lowered the alarm voltage state. Anyway I'll be keeping an eye on it and updating if it comes back.

Default Dealer installed new battery

I was getting the battery low message and took to the dealer armed with the info from here and they put a new battery. I mentioned the that there was a update or something - SSM 44750 and I am not sure they did it but I did get a new battery. They were quick to mention that I have an aftermarket sound system...like they want to fault it but can't.
All is well so far, battery replaced on Dec 12, 2014
