Neither did I. It's a personal decision. Before you drop nearly 40K on either of them, go spend some time with each of them. You won't go wrong either way.

I wouldn't expect that they're equipped exactly the same. I have been looking at these trucks for more than a year, and was determined to get the eco. Well, I finally bought my new truck and drove off the lot with a new Lariat 1 week ago today with the 5.0. Identically equipped eco would have cost me 2K more just between the price difference in the two motors and the 1K in rebates being offered for the 5.0. That made my decision very easy, as for me there's not enough difference between the two to warrant spending $2000 dollars more. It may have a bit less torque, but the nice exhaust sound makes up for it. You really can't go wrong with either motor unless you're towing a BUNCH.

Get the 5.0. I have it, love it. Plus, it five years, when these new eco engines are no longer under warranty and having expensive repairs, your pocket book will thank you.

The eco gets 1 mpg better, has 5 more hp according to Ford (though many dyno tests handed shown that this engine is likely producing closer to 400 ), and when you really need extra power, you can just fill up with ethanol, and your coyote acts more like a wolf.

Plus, it sounds sweet when you floor it, versus the wet fart sound of the eco.

Read the test drive at pick up news' website, and their towing review, and you will see you have plenty of power.

Both are good engines, I just see more upside with the 5.0 L.

Can't go wrong with either motor but I personally chose the ecoboost. I love being able to set the cruise and it never downshifting. I do however miss that sweet sound of a v8 when you put it to the floor. Good luck with your decision and post pics!!!

As it's been said, if you don't do a lot of towing/heavy and don't want to deal with or chance the problems that some of the eco's are having the choice is simple. good luck with what ever you choose.

My personal feelings after driving them all when I was looking is that you can't go wrong with either. I love the 21+mpg of my eco on the highway without trying but on that same note some people can't get 17 while trying hard. The 5.0's seem to be much more consistent with fewer problems, if I didn't have to tow a big heavy toy hauler when I bought it I would have went with the 5.0 for the cheaper price more than likely.

Now if you plan on modding your truck for anything other than exhaust note then the EB is far and away the one to get as it reacts amazing to only a tune. If you want a truck that sounds good then its the 5.0.

With all that said I couldn't see myself going back and getting a 5.0 after owning the EB even though I sold the toy hauler. I have had no issues and the truck has been awesome.

Lastly I don't think the deal you are working is as good as it could be unless it also has things like brake controller, sunroof, Nav etc. With the 2013's out there is no reason you should pay what others paid 6-8 months ago for the same truck.
