I went and looked at the sticker on my roll, it's 60/40 tin/lead Good thing I use it in well ventilated spaces. I could of sworn I bought tin/silver.

Goto amazon and if you have prime can have it next day. Very few radio shacks around anymore. if they are still open, most barely have anything to build electronics any more anyway. Its not like when they first opened up.

Apparently, they closed all of the corporate stores, but there are still "authorized Radio Shack dealers." The company licensing the name runs the Web site, and that's it.

I just did this job tonight. My small soldering iron had real trouble heating the large gauge wire from below to get solder to melt from the top. I ended up melting solder into both sides (after twisting the wires together). Not the prettiest job I've ever done but it was solid and the heat shrink tubing with glue they supply in the kit keeps it tightly held together.
Started truck several times afterwards and all is well. My original fuse and socket were perfectly fine with no signs of melting but I've only got 52k miles on the truck. I tow all summer and better safe than sorry.

^you could have used a good heavy butt connector, the kind without the jacket, and a good crimp tool. Then used the heat shrink.
I have a butane pencil torch that get super hot.
Most all the terminals in our vehicles are crimp on anyway.

I may be leaning towards a good crimp and heat shrink, thank you. You don't think the kind shat has the shrink on the connector then heat shrink also over that would be ok?

If not soldering then use a posi lock, it's the next best thing. https://www.posi-products.com/
They aren't cheap and very much worth the cost.

Very nice for sure, but like you said, pricey. Thank you. Do you happen to know what gauge wire that #27 is off hand?
