Default Question on Price, Demo Trucks, and Future Incentives

I have another pricing question for you - the catch is that this truck is "brand new" but the sales director for the dealership has been driving it for the last three months so it has 3,500 miles on it. It is everything a new truck would be without the smell and some miles.

This is a 2009 Crew 4x4 Lariat with several options:

Sticker of $43,525
Current Negotiated Price: $34,650; and I think we will be at $33,650 tomorrow.

Question: Knowing that this is a truck with 3,500 miles on it is this a good deal? These two numbers represent either 20.4% off MSRP or 22.7% off.
Thoughts?

Also, are there better incentives around the July 4th holiday? They aren't out yet - but should we expect something better?

To my knowledge a dealer can use the vehicle up to 5,000 miles and still sell it as a "NEW" vehicle. However if they should cross that 5,000 mile mark then they must sell it as a used vehicle. I'd say your getting a fair deal either way but find out what they paid (manufacturers invoice not the dealers invoice), deduct the holdback and add 1-3% for fair market profit and then haggle down the price based on the current milage. Remember it's your money and yes the salesman's kids are eating tonight so don't fall into the trap and be sure to call their bluff often and in front of other potential customers. When I signed my paper work with the finance guy he stated the vehicle had 10 miles on it. I went to verify the milage and found it had 182 miles. That was an easy $250 discount. Good luck!

Good point! I believe, and this could be a by state thing, but if the dealer allows it to cross that 5k mile mark then they would have to title it. Anyways, I may be talking outta my a** but I remember reading about this awhile ago.

22.7 is the average
More like 18-20% is the average. 22% is a killer deal. 25% is sinister.

I think you could get essentially the same deal on a 0 mile truck. 3500 is not alot of miles but you have no idea what he 'and his friends" did to that truck. Plus you could get the new smell. I got my 09 Fx4 for $30,500 with a sticker of $39,750.b

Thanks for all of your replies and encouragement. I found the exact same truck...actually with a few different options than the one with 3,500 miles on it at a different dealer and they have come down to the exact same price and they are including a spray in bedliner and window tint. This is on a truck with 10 miles on it.

I agree with the previous post - if i am going new I want no miles...not 3,500!!
