Default Question about brake system warning

2011 f150 4x4 platinum 5.0 Driving on highway and brake system warning message comes on with the little chime. The red light saying my e-brake is engaged stays on after that. Everything seems to be fine, when I stop at next gas station my driver side front wheel is covered in brake dust. As if my front brake is being applied and trying to stop me. Is something in the computer or abs telling it to do this ?

If you're front left brake was stuck on while driving on the highway, you should feel it pulling to the left. It should also smell like it was burning. This would most likely indicate a caliper failure. If the ebrake light is the only issue and it's driving fine with no signs of overheating or anything, check your brake fluid level. In some cars if the brake fluid drops below a certain level, the ebrake light will stay on.

Yes, I could feel a slight pull and could smell brakes burning too. The fluid level looked to be fine. As long as I'm driving around town 55mph or less there is no issue. Even a short trip on the hwy at 65 or 70 is fine but 30 minutes at 70+ the brake system warning lights go off and it starts.

I had a similar problem with the Check Brake light coming on, but it only came on when doing highway driving, not city. It would clear by turning off and back on the ignition. The problem turned out to be the vacuum sensor on the brake booster. Had that replaced and no more warning light coming on!
