Default Quarter mile - stock - which one wins 5.0 vs EB

Hi all

So, I know it's not a race truck but I think every truck driver can appreciate some nice bottom end acceleration.

Of all the topics on 5.0 vs Ecoboost, I haven't come across any pure performance numbers.

Does a equally equipped ecoboost outperform the 5.0 in the 1/8 or 1/4?

I haven't had a chance to drive one yet, but I will test both out in the near future.

What is the acceleration like on both? Do they both break loose the back wheels? Is the 5.0 better right off the line then the EB catches up with the turbo lag?

Thanks guys

The ecoboost is presently the drag strip king (queen?), even faster then the 6.2.

Really?

The vids on YT I've watched show it getting blown away at the line, is this due to turbo lag or poor driving? I'm assuming that it has no problems breaking loose the back tires?

Sorry, I know these questions sound a bit immature, but I don't think the salesman is gonna like me spinning the rubber off two trucks when I go for a test drive.

I'm not much for aftermarket performance, so the faster truck "out of the box" is what I'm looking for.

BTW there is essentially zero turbo lag the quoted 1 second pause is not the turbo its the traction control stepping in. If you turn off the traction control what you get is a lot of tire smoke. The turbo provides boost from 1500 RPM up and the truck idles at 800, those 700 RPMS are gone gone in much less than a wink.
Do a google search there are plenty of vids.

The eb is gonna have a flatter torque curve and as such will stay in its powerband longer. Thus being faster than the 5.0 given somewhat similar specs.

That said I love the v8 sound and the 5.0 is no slouch.

I would be hard pressed to choose between the two and 1/4 numbers would have little to do with it to me.

I personally do like the 5.0 just a tad better.

Everything I have seen shows the EB being faster in the quarter mile but I have yet to see any times for the 5.0 in a Regular cab 2wd short box which would probably be the only configuration to give the EB a run and not available in the eb.

Oooooh 5.0 in regular cab short bed? That would be pretty quick.

The single cab short bed tundra with the 5.7 is a low 14 second truck.

Yeah I'm sure you could do all kinds of configs to make almost any engine faster than another but thats apples to oranges IMO.

Personally I'm looking for the crew cab FX4. 5.0 vs EB.
I drove the chevy 6.2 last summer, nice truck but not all that impressive for power.

How do the 5.0 and 6.2 compare?

5.0 to Hemi?

Agreed, then the EB will probably be the fastest. I have seen a report of a 5.0 beating a EB in identical trucks but the numbers would indicate that the EB will be the consistent winner in most match ups. In the case of the regular cab/SB it is impossible to compare apples to apples.
