Default Putting bigger tires on my stock rims.

Does anyone know what the largest size tire is that I can put on my stock rims? Right now I have the factory 255 70 17's on my '09 4x4 crew cab but I'm getting ready to finally replace them and I want to put some bigger tires on them without having to buy new rims or a lift. I drive it every day but also drive it off road when I'm hunting and need a tire thats good in the mud/snow also. Any suggestions?

Also, why in the world did Ford put the 255's on the F-150? When I was looking for that particular size, there is only a handful of tires that are made in that size.

i have 265/70/18's on my factory wheels. i have seen as wide as 305's on factory wheels. but since you have 17's, i would say go with 285/70/17's, there is a member on here with a stock 4wd 09-10 model and he has no level or lift. maybe he'll chime in...

I have 275/70-17 on my stock XLT wheels. They fit perfect, they dont bulge way out like th 285 and 295 sometimes do.

I put BFG ATs in 265 70 17 on my stock XLT 4wd and they fit fine (the OEM tire was the same 235 75 17s as you have).

From all I've seen, tire fitment on the 09+ trucks is similar to the 04-08s. Your 17s should be 7.5" wide (you can confirm on your driver door jamb). Ignoring tire manufacturer rim width recommendations, you'll see many members with tires as wide as 12.50/315. Many complain about rubbing the UCA when going wider than 12.00/305. Taking the width issues into consideration, the consensus is that a 33" tire will fit on an unlifted 4x4 mounted on the stock rims, and 35s will fit on a leveled or lifted (Rancho or RC allow stock rims IIRC) truck.
