Pure insanity; 9th dead battery in 2.5yrs

I had an issue and thought it was my stereo system. I have even posted over there in that room expressing my problem. Link to that post: https://www.f150forum.com/f30/stereo...er-8mo-418783/

The truck at random will simply be 100% dead with not even enough juice to turn on the display lamp and is the 9th or 10th time this has happened and I have to call roadside assistance. This is getting ridiculous. Yesterday, just fine. Today, 100% dead and won't even flicker with lights almost as if the batter isn't even in the truck. Next, I have never run my stereo with the truck off. In fact, I don't listen to my stereo but maybe 3 days a week for 1hr. The reason is bc my son (3yrs old) is in my truck most of the time or I am listening to talk radio.

This appears to be a Ford issue. I have been searching and the 2013 F150 has been having major issues with the batteries just dying at random. I keep reading and this seems like it may be part of the problem. Does anyone know what this is all about? I am in the middle of a divorce and do not have the money to be wasting on this truck and its issues. Just had two pulleys and the fuel idler sensor from the fuse box replaced by Ford. Lukcily it was under warranty as the bill was going to be $3000. I have about 1,000 miles left before my warranty ends.

Came out to garage to a pickup that would not start three times in about a two week period. Charged the battery all tree times and the pickup started easy for a couple days. Finally got tired of that and took to my mechanic who replaced the battery and said the charging system was fine. This was just last week. I got up last Saturday and drove to town about 5 miles. I was away from the truck about 3 hrs and came out and the truck would not start. I got a jump and dropped the truck back at the repair shop. Now they are calling me saying they can't seem to find anything that is causing the dead battery???

Update from Feb 14, 2017 Took pickup back to shop at their request. Shop had truck for a couple days trying to track down the issue. Final results were that the Park/Neutral switch was bad. When putting the truck in park, the transmission was not turning off all the way and was drawing electricity. The shop found the problem and checked with identifix to confirm. They found identical issue that fit my problem to the T. Shop had to replace the entire shifter mechanism in the center console. The fix was about $500. (Plus a new battery I probably didn't need to begin with) Interestingly, the Ford shop in Boise Idaho had 4 of these in stock ;)....Appears this may be an issue bigger than the company would like to admit.

That switch is a common problem, and it shouldn't require the entire shifter mechanism to be replaced. The clock spring and switches in the steering column can be a source of electrical draw, too.

I'd unplug the sensor at the battery. It helps keep your battery under-charged, making it easier for a rogue draw to kill it.

It's a $6 - $7 switch you can buy from Digi-Key and replace in about 15 min. I've done mine.
I even bought a couple spares just to have.

Another very common problem is the engine wiring harnesses chafing on the A/C dryer and A/C hard lines and other parts on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Seen quite a few that had worn completely through some of the wires causing all sorts of issues. Everyone should take a very close look at the large wiring harnesses under the hood and make sure there aren't any areas where they are chafing against something.

Was this resolved? Did the switch fix it.
