Default To FORD Service

I just saw the Ford Service section and wanted to address an issue with them. I realize we already have a thread going on this that I started a couple days ago but am curious to hear from someone in Ford Service.

I just purchased a 13 Lariat with just under 10,000 miles on it. the 3.2 L. I like the truck so far but there is something I am curious about. The headlights. I just came off of driving a Tundra for several years and can say that without a doubt the headlights on the Toyota were much better than the Ford and this was an 07. After posting my thread and seeing several responses it would appear this may be an issue for many owners. Admittedly the relative small number of responses doesn't mean that all Ford F 150 owners are not happy with their headlights but I really wonder if most are less than satisfied. What are your thoughts on this and what lights would you recommend for us to replace them without having to make mods?

I put the 2013 oem hids in mine, and Absolutely Love Em! Alls thats need to make them work is a wiring harness, a necessary upgrade for around $900.00! They'll work on 09-14 f-140's...

Toddman34 hit the nail on the head. That's going to be your best option... Ford Service isn't going to recommend a non-oem option and I don't blame them. If you want better lighting without big bucks, then you'll have to look into something aftermarket and be willing to accept any consequences which may or may not arise.

Ford will not recommend these even though they are OEM. They did not come on the truck and therefore not OEM in their eyes.

I'm going with a retrofit. A custom builder takes stock headlights and modifies them with aftermarket projector and HIDs to give way better lighting than stock.

Also as Todd suggested you could go to eBay and find a pair of stock 13 HIDs and get a harness and be done also.

I can also say after talking to Ford on my 13 they do consider the OEM HID to be aftermarket if your truck did not come with it even if you have a dealer install it. Ford is so stupid this way it is unbelievable. You would think they would want to sell and make money for the dealer like Ford parts but NOPE, they are idiots that way and the factory non HID headlights suck ***.

Sorry, I meant the 3.6L. I guess I'm primarily looking for someone from Ford to explain why Ford won't fix this headlight issue if there are enough complaints? For someone who has to drive this at night often I would like to see better headlights w/o breaking the bank. I also don't want to use a headlight I need to replace often as they just don't want to last.

Ohhhhhhh OK.

As far as the headlights- I have a 10 XLT with stock Halogens and think they are plenty bright. Maybe you were just spoiled with the Tundra lighting if it's that good.

Wrong again lol.

My '13 came with OEM HID's and I'm very satisfied with them. Something to look into. An incandescent bulb is an incandescent bulb, I doubt your Tundra's were any better.

I love my HID's on my '13 FX4. However, I don't like the fact that they flicker when driving on a somewhat bumpy road. It seems as if there is a loose wire and when I hit a bump they flicker.

I've never owned a vehicle that's had HID headlights. Is it normal for them to flicker on bumps?

OP..........FWIW, your engine choice's are 3.7 v6, 3.5 v6 (ecoboost), 5.0 v8 or 6.2 v8.
