first long tow
Last weekend I decided to bring my boat back from Table Rock in order to do some long put-off maintenance. 303 mile trip. On the way down, I got 16.2 mpg, not bad for cruising along at ~75 most the way.
On the way back, staying in tow/haul mode I got....10.1 mpg, which is about 2 mpg less than my Suburban used to get (1992 model with a 350 engine and 3.42:1 rear end), so it wasn't THAT bad, considering it was all my poor old 'Burban could do to pull that boat up some of those hills in Missouri and the FX4 yanked that puppy around easily. Towed load is right at 5,500 pounds.
In certain instances I was able to easily pass people traveling slower than I (once again, I was staying right around 70 - 75 mph), I was impressed with the acceleration from 65 mph to 80 - 85 mph.
About the only thing I was disappointed with was the mirrors....I simply couldn't see behind my boat at all. I saw something in another thread about some 'clip on' tow mirrors? Anyone have a link to that?
Thanks!
