Default Predicament...Should i get an F150 instead of diesel???

Ok so I've been thinkin lately. The price of diesel here is 4.55/gallon and gas is about 3.69. I get around 12-13mpg as its all short trips. I've been thinkin about sellin my 07 F250 lariat outlaw 6.0 and gettin an f150 with either a 5.0 or ecoboost (want the turbos for the same diesel-like feel). I don't need a diesel at all, for what I tow occasionally (three quads and my trailer, my dads muscle cars, or hauling wood to my camp, etc; nothing over 10k) I can easily do it with a 150, and this is my daily driver and my commute is shorter now (about 15 mins to work). Diesel is way more to maintain and fill up. F150 rides much nicer and is nicer and more comfortable on the inside.

I love the power on tap and sound diesels have (man the 6oh turbo and straight pipe is heavenly), but idk if its worth the extra costs.

What are some opinions?? Has anyone gone from a diesel to an F150, and what did you think?

I had an '05 F250 XLT 6.0 and went to a '13 F150 Lariat. Not quite apples to apples between XLT and Lariat, but I'm much more happy with the F150. Gas is cheaper, the F150 ride is better even with a level and Goodyear Duratrac's. Like you I didn't need the diesel for towing as much as i thought i did. I got to a point where I gave up on the 6.0 because it was such a money pit and so far I haven't looked back once. Good luck on your decision.

There's no financial analysis that you can run that tells you that saving a few MPG is worth buying a new vehicle, in other words it wouldn't pay off forever.

If you add in maintenance, you would need to spending a huge amount of money on a very old vehicle with almost no book value to make that a good economic decision. Getting rid of a 6 year old truck to buy a new truck likely would not be a smart decision at least economically.

I sometimes see people complaining about MPG on the forum (sometimes?). I often wonder if they have sat down with a calculator and figured out the yearly difference in the scenarios they are discussing (not that I question it here, you seem focused on the feel of the vehicles in comparision). I have a Fusion Hybrid that gets a yearly average of 32 mpg. If I assume my new F-150 (I got rid of a 1998 Explorer to get it) gets 15 mpg, over 12,000 a year driving at $3.50 per gallon gas the cost is $1,313 for the Fusion and $2,800 for the F-150, a difference of $1,500 a year. That's a big difference, a new truck is $6,000+ a year in payments over 5 years and the Fusion is paid off. Even if the Fusion cost me $1,000 a year in maintenance it would be a very bad decision, at least economically.

I still owe a couple thousand on this truck that's the thing and it has 148k miles. I'd rather make payments on a truck with 60k or so miles and has a warranty that is more practical and costs far less to maintain. Idk what I wanna do, it's nice to have the diesel but in reality I've never really NEEDED it, just wanted it

I did exactly what you are considering. Had a 1999 F250 7.3 Turbo Diesel. Used it a lot when we pulled a big trailer. After we got rid of the trailer I just kept the truck. After 12 years, I decided to "down grade" to a F150. It wasn't a downgrade. Went with a 2013 SCAB 5.0 and absolutely love it. Getting about 16.5 MPG. Rides like a luxury car but has all the power and towing capability that I'll ever need.

No regrets here.

I had a 06 6.0. I loved that truck the sound and the way it was just a bigger heavier truck. But to be honest it was overkill and it was a want. The f150 has been a better truck and far less to keep up. I will say the diesel made me want the Eco. U get use to the turbo power

Here's my truck now. I love it, but agree, it is a little overkill.

I might go test drive some ecoboosts. The luxury of the lariats are so nice and would like one with all the bells and whistles. However, I do want a super crew 6.5' bed which is really hard to find. I found a 5.0 lariat with a 6.5' and a 5.4 platinum with one. I love the v8 bc it'll have an exhaust but I want the torque and turbo feel of the ecoboost. I was lookin up tuned ones and man they haul azz haha

If you want the diesel feel, then go ecoboost and get the 5star tune. I call mine the mini diesel.

I got a diamond eye 4 inch exhaust on mine and u can hear the turbos very well. I need a intake and I think it will even sound a lot like my old diesel
