Default 2012 FX4 5.0 Fuel Tank Pressure

I reviewed the existing forums in this section and didn't find one addressing this exact issue; so here goes....

Excess pressure has developed in my fuel tank to the point where I cannot release it by trying to force the nozzle valve. I believe the cause of this pressure is a faulty evap cannister purge valve (diagnosed this through review of several other threads; thanks). However; I wanted to release that tank pressure first and wasn't sure of the correct way to accomplish this? Will removing the faulty purge valve do the trick? I did not want to use too much force on the nozzle valve at the tank opening for fear of damage. Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

PS - the tank pressure has "slightly" collapsed a small portion of the fuel tank; I'm hoping it will return to normal once the pressure is released.

Thanks.

UPDATE. Changed the Evap Purge Valve; 36.00 for the part. It solved the problem. Thanks to the F-150 forums for the help. Probably saved me a couple of hundred dollars in dealer diagnostics, etc...

Just to understand, you state tank pressure, but you also state collapsed the tank.

do you mean negative pressure, like a partial vacuum.

Yes; vacuum pressure. Luckily for me it was only a minor dent. Saw some pics of trucks with serious fuel tank dents from the same issue. All fixed now.
