power tailgate lock

power tailgate lock
anyone installed an actuator to make their tailgate power lock/unlock?
I lock mine every time I'm not accessing the bed since it's so easy for someone to removed the tailgate and take off with it maybe I'm just paranoid...
but locking and unlocking with the key is getting old... it would be so much better to install an actuator in there and wire it into the passenger side door lock controls so that a double-tap on the unlock button unlocked it, and hitting the lock button locked it

Hey everyone. I need a bit of help but I think I may also be able to help some others if what I have is correct. If this works I can help by posting up some other wire diagrams based on AllData.
I have access to AllData. So I pulled up some of the lock wiring diagrams to see what colors they use on my truck (2013 SCrew). I ran my lead wires to the drive side rear kick panel. Last night I was having trouble figuring out which wires to tap into. Reading through these threads, there were so many options, and of course I couldnt find my test light so I stopped for the evening.
Here are the diagrams.
So it would look to me, that in the third image there, Pin 3 is going to be a VT (violet)-GY (grey) wire which is the passenger door unlock signal excluding the drivers door.
If this is correct then I would assume my red wire goes to this. The wire I ran from the tailgate is your typical Red and Black wire. Now what do I do with the black wire? Does it just go to ground?

The lock/unlock is very simple. With relays, the truck sends + on one wire and - (or ground) on the other. To unlock it sends the opposite polarity. So no you cannot connect one of your wires to ground.
The connectors above look like they are at the lock mechanism in the door. The wiring may or may not be the same color in the chase below the sill plate.

I guess I just need to get a new test light and figure out which ones to tap.

Yeah I didnt buy the pop a lock kit. I just bought the actuator and have it 95% done. I just need to figure out which two wires to tap on the Drivers side rear door sill for a 13 SCrew.

I'm not so good with using a digital multi-meter, but I have one so let me see if I get this right.
If I take the multi-meter and set it to Voltage DC 20, that will read up to 20 volts. Then I just take the positive and tap into a wire I want to test, put the ground on the trucks body to ground it. Then click my lock/unlock and see if the multi-meter spikes some voltage?

Sewing pins is genius! That will work great. Thanks for the help. Now lets hope I can get this done finally!

I installed the pop&lock because there wasn't room to make my own with an actuator. I have the man step and the backup camera and the actuator has to be horizontal. The wires on my 2014 were gray and violet and gray and another color that I forgot. There are only a few gray wires in there, it took me just a few minutes to find them, I also used sewing needles and a 12v light.
