Lightbulb power tailgate lock

anyone installed an actuator to make their tailgate power lock/unlock?

I lock mine every time I'm not accessing the bed since it's so easy for someone to removed the tailgate and take off with it maybe I'm just paranoid...

but locking and unlocking with the key is getting old... it would be so much better to install an actuator in there and wire it into the passenger side door lock controls so that a double-tap on the unlock button unlocked it, and hitting the lock button locked it

I read a write up on one of the other F150 forums on this. The guy tied it into his remote power door locks. I also want to say or his plan was to add another acuator that would push the tailgate handle open and push it out, falling open slowly with the small Eazy Down damper piston.

Pretty cool. Would like to install one when the friendly weather comes back around.

How about the Pace-Edwards remote tailgate lock?

Installed the Pop&Lock power tailgate lock on my 2006 F-150 when I first purchased the truck. When I turned the truck in on the 2009 F-150 I pulled it out and installed it on the 2009. Wired it into the passanger side door locks. Also have the electric lock on the ARE topper. It works great. In fact I had to free the tail gate lock when I went to turn in the truck because in 3 years I never used it. The part number was PL8250 and it fit 97 and up F150 and 99 and up 250 and 350. Price was around $ 90.00 to $ 95.00 dollars and took about 1-2 hours to install.

I used the dynolock kit. It installs in the tailgate and locks the tailgate handle mechanism by tapping into your door locks. Very easy to install, about $100 for a kit.

If you search on the forum there is a thread where someone put the kit together themselves for about $20, so you can do this very cheaply.

Interesting...

Thanks guys!

I'd probably try to put a kit together myself, since that's just the way I like to do things

It won't be any time soon, but I'm glad to see it's being done

I saw a kit for earlier models which was a replacement for the right hinge so even if the tailgate is down, it can't be removed without the security bit. There is also the Bully Tailgate Lock, but I have zero clue how well that would do with the current model F-150s. However, neither of those would protect against taillight theft if the tailgate is down.

I'd rather just have a power lock though, because I plan on getting a Bakflip

Keep us updated on this - I'd love to see a write-up on how to do this. I hate manually locking/unlocking it each time I use it.
