Default Power for radar detector

Where is a good place to tap switched power for a radar detector in a 2013?

I don't really want to tap into the rear view mirror, I don't think I can hide the wiring nice enough. I was planning on running the hard wiring down the A-pillar into a power point somewhere.

Any info?

I tapped mine into my mirror and you can't see any wires. Best and easiest way to do it in my opinion. Mine is just a cheap radar but hey it has saved me many times. I'll take a few pictures later this afternoon and post em up.

I have the escort remote smart wire with the extra mute button.

I ran my down the drivers side pillar and have the mute button mounted on the drivers side of the center console.

Then tapped into the trailer brake control fuse in the passenger footwell.

I ran the wire under the headliner and down the passenger A pillar to that same fuse.

I used the trailer brake fuse as well. Ran the wire down the passenger side a pillar and then ran mute bottom over behind dash. For a ground I just used a sheet metal screw and screwed it in to a metal bracket behind the passenger side of the dash.

Make sure to tap into the hot side if the fuse, so the radar detector and trailer brake aren't pulling through the trailer brake fuse. You can find the hot side by pulling the fuse and turning the truck on. Then stick the wire in each side and see which side has power. That's the hot side. I also notched the fuse panel cover with a dremel to make room for the wire.

You joules also run an inline fuse for the radar detector if there's not already one in the wiring harness.

I took some pictures and wrote up how I connected mine, but it's a 2012. Should be similar.

Hi.

The folks using an Add-a-fuse at the SJB on a hot-in-start/run fuse (there are a few), are doing it right.

This way, every added circuit gets a dedicated fuse. It's never recommended to just will-nilly 'tap' into a random switched hot wire you found. Just a general electrical best-practice.

FWIW, if you need to add multiple accessories (or want easily-accessible extra circuits for future use), consider one of these to give each device a separate switched (or non-switched) fused supply...

This is the clean, neat way of doing it:

And they sell the mirror tap lead as well.
