Default Possibly trading in my 2011 for a 2012, need advice guys.

I have a 2011 F-150 XLT SuperCab that's 2WD and has the 3.7L V6. It has the 3.73 non-limited slip rear axle, and has no packages I believe. It had an MSRP of close to $31K, and I was able to get it out the door for $25.6K. I did the online trade appraisal for my local dealer, Capital Ford of Raleigh, and I can get anywhere between $17,000 to $21,000. Now, I do have a lot of mods done to it, how does that affect the trade? I do have roughly $20K to pay off on it, and I won't even consider trading it in if they don't offer AT LEAST what I have left to pay it off.

I'm looking to trade it in for a 2012 SuperCrew XLT, Lariat, or FX4. 4WD, 5.0 V8, 3.73 electronic locking rear axle, and offroad package. Other than that, I could care less about the other options. What MSRP am I looking at? Final price out the door after rebates and all that? Should I just walk out if they aren't willing to go $10K or more off MSRP? Capital Ford is having a special where all SuperCrew XLT models are 25% off, so I wanted to take advantage of that. I will also be getting X-Plan pricing along with the college student pricing.

Thanks in advance for all of the help guys!

Also, the reason why I am not choosing a 2013 is because I believe I will get a lot better of a deal with a 2012 than I will with a 2013.

Also, I wanted to ask, right now I do have a custom tune loaded on my truck. When they do the trade appraisal onsite, do they drive the truck? If so, I should probably return the truck back to stock, correct?

I also qualify for the X-Plan through work. It's the best way to buy a Ford other than actually working for Ford...If it's a good dealer, they may work with you on your trade, but good luck getting top dollar for it unless its in extremely good shape with low miles. Unfortunately, they won't factor in any of your Mods when they give you an appraisal, but I'm sure with the X-Plan and the college discount, they will be willing to work with you on your trade value to at least get you close to what you owe on it. Good luck!

P.S. where do you work that you get the X-plan discount? And yes, return your truck to stock, and take the tuner off, it shouldn't affect resale value but it may scare them that it was driven hard, plus if you return it to stock first and take it off you can sell it seperately

I work with Cisco. My truck has 22,000 miles on it. Everything is in excellent condition except for a very small dent on the tailgate. I planned to take care of it when it happened, but I was quoted $400 or so to repair it from that dealership's body repair shop. I decided to hold off on it for a while since the dent is hardly noticeable.

I have a cold air intake, larger tires and aftermarket wheels, aftermarket running boards and bed rails, tool box, aftermarket trailer hitch, aftermarket light bar, side view mirrors with blinkers and reflectors done myself, 2.5" leveling kit and 1.5" rear block, and a SCT programmer. I will see what they say about all of the mods that are done to it (minus the programmer, of course, it will be stock tuned), and I guess I will proceed from there.

Mods can actually hurt trade in value. When I traded my truck in they wanted it as close to stock as possible

They likely will factor in the mods, each mod will likely lower the appraised value
Best bet is to return it to stock, sell your mods privately before trying to sell or trade.

Mods add nothing. Grandpa doesnt want to buy at truck that's been riced out- that's why the dealer wants them as stock as possible.

You're probably upside down on that truck, but let us know what they offer you in trade.
