Default Possible new Owner (questions)

Hey guys,

I have a kid on the way and I'm thinking about moving on to something more practical (lol). I've been looking at 2012 F150 FX2's because they are offering great deals on them. I know the reason for this is the 2013's are coming out soon so they want to move these things. Now, my concern is will I regret not waiting for the 2013? I know there are minor enhancements but the my touch system is really intriguing and HID's are going to be added which is a huge plus. If I get the 2012 I would look into adding my own HID's (not just the bulb, but the projector too). I don't really want to deal with modding the headlights but I will do it if I have too. The problem with waiting for the 2013 is obviously waiting stinks, but I also probably won't be able to get the deal I'm being offered now being they are new. So, any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

I suspect that the 2013 headlights will fit in the 2012's, at least that's what I'm hoping. Easy switch out and genuine Ford parts.

I wonder how much those will go for and where would I mount the ballast? Also, the black headlights might be more scarce as well.

I'm in the same boat. I was going to buy a 2012 towards the end of this year (end of Dec.) but figure I'll buy a 2013 custom ordered, for two reasons:

1. I want a 6.5' bed and those are extremely rare on lots. Not many dealers order them because "they don't sell". If I want a 6.5' bed I'll need to custom order.

2. I want a 2013. I figure it's better to get the newer model for re-sell. That is, I will have 1 less year of depreciation from a model year by getting the 2013 vs. 2012. Since annual depreciation is $5-6K on the front end, and $2-3K in the latter years, unless there are enough incentives to overcome this price differential, you're better off with the newer model.

It a tough call. If you want a great deal, the '12 is the way to go. But you won't have an already year old truck if you buy the '13. Ford has just raised the base price on trucks approx. 75 bucks. All the new goodies on the '13 will certainly raise the price more. Sometimes the price of aftermarket goodies are higher, but you don't have to get things you don't need in the option packages. Good luck.

I just looked at my reply. Crap, I confused the matter even further. Sorry 'bout that my friend. Look at it this way, either way you go your gonna have a great truck.

Would $10,000 off MSRP be considered a great deal?

Oh yeah...............In my book is sure is. You'll hear stories about folks getting $11K or $12K off. May have, but it's hard for me to beleive.

10,000 off msrp is about the benchmark, so long as you actually get that and they didn't add like 2k dollars in dealer add ons (tint, nitrogen filled tires, pin stripe) in order to get some of that back.

My truck was one of the trucks in the ad in the Sunday paper so it was about 12k off. But there was only one, which is usually how the ads work. Good luck!

I'm actually going to try for 12k off. However, the lack of HID's is really killing me. My last 4 cars have had them and I love them. Doh.

Well guys, I didn't get the 12k but I got 10. I'm now the proud owner of a ecoboost FX2. I have to be honest, I'm going to try and stay away from here because I'm addicted to modding and forums do not help with trying to be practical. LOL.
