Default Pop N Lock Issue

installed the pop n lock 8250 over the weekend on my 14 FX4. the install was fine, i found the proper lock/unlock wires on the driver side however the pop n lock solenoid wont fully work. at times it would only move a fraction of its intended travel, or would take multi attempts in one direction to get it to fully work.

i metered both at the solenoid and where i T'd into the factory wiring, and im only seeing approx 8-9v. im guessing this is my issue as the solenoid is likely wanting 12v. i dont know exactly how to correct this without running a whole new relay setup.

any suggestions would be appreciated

thx

Where did you tap into the wires at?

When I installed mine I had to use wires in the door harness. Even though the wires were listed as being in the door sill, I could not find the wires listed.

Do you have 12v at the wire when you actuate the lock/unlock?

Try calling PNL. See what they say. I am not sure how many volts is needed.

Check your splices, make sure you hammer down on them with your pliers. I had the same problem and that was it. Don't be afraid, you won't break them.

i thought of that as well, so i opened one of the connectors. the factory wire is in there good, and again im still only getting 8-9v at that point.

in the meantime ive emailed Pop N Lock tech support for any suggestions

It might be worth reopening the tailgate panel to see that everything is mechanically moving free and clear. I also had some poor activations on mine when I installed it. I ended up splicing into the wires directly and soldering the connections. This made for a much more solid connection that not only carried the volts but also the amps to make the actuator work.

i still had the tailgate open at the time as i didnt know if i had to swap the solenoids leads around for proper direction. i took the pop and lock out and was metering it while i watched its lock/unlock (or lack of) function... i should have explained that earlier.

at any rate, i exchanged the solenoid with the seller just now, quickly plugged it while still in the parking lot and it seems to work a whole lot better. a lot more travel in both directions for the 5-6 times i tried it. i unhooked it and threw it in the cab until tomorrow when i can button things back up.

mystery solved for the moment (?). thanks everyone for their input.
