OK - I'm a duf... if hard wiring... the LED, power inverter and plug are required? Anyone got links to the parts they are using? I'm very interested.

Edit: If hardwiring, I presume I don't need a plug. Will this inverter work?

for hardwiring, you will only need the inverter. the EL-Wire cannot function without it. All other plug setup is something I went with. doing a quick search on the site I bought mine from and they seem to only have the 12v adapter available.

Here's a site that sells hardwire inverter: it's my understanding that as long as the elwire has the EZ Plug any inverter will work with any elwire.

Thanks Toddman, I've been scratching my head for a few months trying to find something and the el wire definitely fit the bill

Can't wait to see the pics. This past weekend I took mine back out and carved a groove in the black bottom cup holder piece and super glued it in, so at least I'm no longer using tape to hold it in place.

Here's a few pics, (I don't have one of it lit up at night but it looks identical to the previous night pictures):

good idea on the groove, did you just use a dremel? i actually used tape as well but only on the outside edge so that once the cowl was put back on you cant see any. if i have any issues i may do the groove/glue combo

Yup, dremel and a carving kit I picked up at Lowes for 14 bucks, I used the 107 bit from the kit, but I think you can get that bit alone for 5 bucks.

My only suggestion when doing the carving is keep to the inner lip of that edge. I went with the outer edge that had the right angle and while it's very secure, it left the elwire about 2mm short of being flush. It's not noticeable at night, but as you can see in the daytime pics there's that little ledge still there.....I didn't measure it correctly prior to carving and I made the call for the outer edge because the chome trim wasn't perfectly matched to the cup holder and it turns out the offset is smaller than the ledge, doh
