kmaximus let me know about the kit you plan to use and where you get it from. I was about to buy a kit this week but will hold out a little since I like your idea about the cup holder.
Thanks!

For those of you interested in hard wiring... in the center console on the shifter there are a setof wires you can hard wire into.

You're looking for a blue and a black wire. Here's some info to help you narrow down which wires though:

There are two blue wires. You don't want the one paired with the red wire that run off by themselves up to the shifter at the front of the console.

There are three black wires. You don't want the thin one. I've been told the other two thicker wires are both ground wires but I don't know about this. I used a meter and the first one I tapped into was in fact a ground so I didn't test the other.

If you use these wires the EL wire will dim with the lights in the rest of your truck.

Yes, actually it's designed, installed and fully functional. I'm about half way through the parts list and install instructions. It looks great in the truck, I'll post some pictures later after the monsoon finishes outside.

My original thought to offer this as a kit, I don't feel is a reality simply because while what I've created functions great, it's not professionally designed enough for mass sell....so I'll take the lazy way out and offer it up as a full DIY setup

I'm attaching some pictures of the RGB Ring module I created, I had to abandon the RGB bulb configuration as I could never get them to work completely with the RGB strips......So, the module for the ring is actually a strip that I took and created a harness to hold the light tubing in place so the light flows through correctly. As you can see in the pictures it's ugly, but completely functional

Also, the setup is the light ring, led strips, all wired and connected to a RF remote enable controller.

Looks great man! Can't wait to get the write up. Question, if I were to order the OEM light ring and controller (from the platinum model or something) is that module able to operate independently? Or would I also need to order that ford ambient light kit?

Thanks......

That's a good question, based on what I've read....since the oem ambient light kit is designed as a all in one install with it's own control switch, and also not wired the same as if the full Plat. ambient light kit with the ring installed from the factory. If the platinum console also comes with the wiring harness to power and connect the ring then I would think you are good to go. But, I've seen the wiring harness sold separately that plugs into those buttons so I still think it would be a pricey after market oem purchase.

I think the parts required are:
Plat. Console
LED Acrylic Ring
Wiring Harness

I was following this thread and I think he ended up around 300/400 bucks, but I've yet to see the install pictures or a write up so hard to know how it ended other than he got it installed....
