btw, i went to both auto zones stores in my area on my way home today. Both had the Pilot flex tube, in blue on clearance for $9.99. One store didn't have any more and the other had one but it wasn't working so i didn't want to chance it. I want to make sure it will match with the interior **** lights.

yeah, looking at the video, they are using basically that el wire kit for 20 bucks and some glue for their kit. 50% mark up ain't bad I guess.

guess I need to get my patent going for the led version of this thing before they take that too

gotcha, yeah the pilot tubes basically have a 3mm led on each end. they sell em in white and blue but I've taken the blue leds off the ends and replaced them with red for one forum member and purple for a buddy down the street. If you can find an LED color that matches that would be an easy swap.

good place to get an idea of different colors:

i can't seem to find the 1.4mm EL wire w/ the inverter needed to tap into the shift lights. i don't want the lighter plug and it doesn't look like cool wires sell the wire i want with that inverter.

i emailed cool wires to see if they can help me with what i'm looking for. i also found this one on eBay but it's from overseas, so i shouldn't expect it anytime soon if i buy it.

Question for you guys that have done this. Was there already a groove between the chrome trim piece and the plastic piece where you attach the light to?

If you look at this pic of my cup holders there is no gap between the chrome trim and the black plastic of the cup holders.

I'm just wondering if this is doable for mine as I really like the look!

Thanks!!

Recon_sct, your cup holder is just really put together well/seemless . After you take out the middle console you should see give between the chrome trim and the plastic cup holder part.

The chrome trim and black cup holder sandwich between the main console, it's that sandwiching that creates the gap used for these lights

Now, all that being said if you go the route of the led tube vs the el wire you will need to carve that space a little bit to make room for the size of the tube

I just replaced mine last weekend because I had accidentally pinched my elwire while installing a cell phone charger. There is a grove there under the chrome ring. You can't see it until you take the cup holder apart. I used the 2.2mm ELWire kit from EL Wire pros and it fit almost perfect and shows up good after it's all put back together. After its back together it does raise the chrome ring just a hair but it's barley noticeable. Here is a link to the site http://www.elwirepros.com/quickconnect-el-wire.html and below is what I ordered and prices. FYI the prices are for 2 sets, which is what I ordered.

2 P-12v

Inverter

$9.00Quick-Connect

EL wire 2.2mm
  • Length : 2ft(+$2.20)
  • Color : Blue
$8.80

One more thing. The light is much brighter than my crappy cell phone pics show. It is crystal clear and very bright all the way around. The dark spots in my pic are just from my camera.
