I have the factory installed one and am lucky if it will start at 100ft. Works great at anything less than that but really kind of a joke.

I'm wondering if mine could be swapped out for the long range version? Since it is allready set up for remote start would I need the reflash?

I'm afraid of getting the longer range one because the dealer told me it had that god-awful programming of shutting the truck off any time the door is opened due to the MyKey system

Didn't know about that. Wouldn't like that.......Wish the thing had more range. I think I will just live with it.

The dealer could be wrong - I keep hoping someone gets the Ford Bi-Di remote starter so we know for sure I also like the idea of configuring it through the instrument panel instead of a valet switch

I'm going to call a few other dealers for pricing on "activating" it, looking at the instructions online on what they have to do it will take all of 5 minutes tops.. hell if they give me the scanner I'll do it lol. I'll most likely order the Bi-Di kit this weekend.

I'm a tech at a Ford dealer and just installed a kit today. The antenna mounts in the dash just above the glove box and one wire hooks up to the TPMS module just to the right of the glove box. The kit comes with 2 keys that need to be cut and programed. The remote start system must be activated with the IDS scan tool. Activting will usually cost 1.0hr labor. Even it if does take only 10min. that's the way the flat rate system works.

DLH that's awesome - was it a Bi-Di kit or a RPO kit? And did it have full factory functions?
Oh *duh* it came with two keys so its the RPO - but did it have full factory function?

p38fln, The RPO(OE) kit works just like the factory installed system. One more item of note, you may need the hood ajar switch if your truck is not already equipped. If equipped it would be mounted on the drivers side near the coolant resvoir. The wiring is already there if not equipped.

Mine has the hood switch - I think it's included with the "peremiter" alarm or something like that.

Hopefully someone knows if the Bi-Di kit is the same If not I'm going to wait til my next pay check comes and get the RPO remote starter installed
