Default Adding Brake Controller

I have a 2011 xlt with the tow package, but since it has the chrome package no brake controller. Prior to posting a did a search and did not find the answer to the factory placement of the brake controller. Couple of other sites conflict on whether it is just plug and play or whether an additional dealer flash is required. So here are my questions:

1. Can anyone post a picture of where the factory brake controller goes?

2. Is a dealer flash required or can I just buy one and plug it in?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2011 XLT with the tow package, chrome package and brake controler. Who told you cant get the brake controller with the chrome package? I dont have a picture but it replaces the little tray under the 4x4 switch or if you have a 4x2 its under the coin holder. It would be simple to instal but the dealer has to activate it, so I've been told. I would have added one if mine didnt come with one.

Yes, you're doing the right thing going with factory. It's awesome that it adjusts the trailer brake pressure automatically with speed.

Mine was added by the dealer as part of the deal when I bought my truck ('11 XLT). I believe they had to program something in the truck (wasn't plug and play, so it can't be done by the average person), but it didn't take very long.

Definitely the way to go over an aftermarket one!

I added mine shortly after buying it. There should be a narness behind the little cubbyhole (at least on my fx4), get the little pocket place out below the 4x4 switch (if equipped) and install. Then a dealer flash update is required before the truck will recognize it. Works great.
