I agree with your original guesses, fwiw. Although I'm not sure the transmission has a thermostat? New one on me if they do.

Is it possible the noise is actually caused by the vibration of the cooler or the lines?

1) Although I provided the video along with my diagnosis of the parts making the sound dealer claims to have spent an hour trying to replicate the sound. Failed to replicate, no action taken.
2) My drivability problem claimed 3/4 hour diagnosis, could not replicate problem. Blamed dirty air filter and changed it (not! 5000 miles on it since changed at last service, inspected it before taking it in).
3) Charged me $100 per hour for the "could not replicate problem" troubleshooting. Stated if Ford won't pay then I do.
4) Tried to get me to resurface front brake rotors. They were done under warranty at last service 5000 miles ago. Now they're done.... Ordered complete set after market myself.
5)Basically just got an oil change and lube. I supplied my own Mobil 1 oil. Air and oil filter by dealer. $370,
6) I left my dash cam on all day. In HD I have proof that the truck went into the service bay for 1.5 hours, moved out and parked the rest of the day. The drove it until hot and tried multiple times to replicate the problems was a total fabrication. Other small service tasks written down as performed were not done.
I have had enough. Back to servicing my own stuff and only taking the truck in for undisputed warranty.
Already looking at going back to GMC for a 6.2 V8. If only they would made a Ford like interior.
Unfortunately the wife gets her new SUV first. Starting to look more like another Pilot instead of the Edge.
Dealers are maddening...
Sounds like TSB # 14-0134.

The lines and cooler are vibrating at the same frequency of the sound you hear.
It really feels like pulsing of the oil in the line.
Thermostat, pump, cavitation, plugged filter,....
No idea. The farther towards the transmission you grab the line the stronger it gets.

I thought you hit the nail on the head with that one, until I read into it and listened to the videos of it.
I don't recall the shifting noise described but I will try to recreate it.
My noise comes on in park or at idle and stays on for several minutes or until you Rev the engine up above idle.
I would bet money though it is related to the same shifter valve problem as named in the TSB, just different symptoms.
Thanks for the find.

Learned that lesson years ago. Avoid the dealership unless it is a warranty claim. Regular service/maintenance and repairs I do myself or use my trusted mechanic.

With your dash cam proof, I would file a complaint with Ford Motor Company about the dealer falsifying service, diagnosis work. Ford would not take that lightly. It is a serious fraud offense that state regulatory agencies go after also.
In some states there are Bureau of Automotive Repairs that also vigorously prosecute this type of fraud.
That noise could be a sign of something that could seriously damage your transmission in my opinion.

There are Ford reps on this site that might want to help you.
Let us know what it turns out to be.

Default Play Diagnosis of the Noise! Beat the Dealer!

Although Chevy seems to have hit a huge homerun with this latest facelift, which I actually like and apparently so does everyone else, because they are everywhere now.
The only problem is, it's still the same chassis my friends 2015 is built on. He's had 9 recalls in one year and is bringing it in again Monday, for a recall on the trailer hitch. Which possibly has an inferior weld which could rip the hitch off the truck while towing.
That'll be 10 recalls in 13 months. Plus his rear diff is sounding funny.
As much as I think they built a good looking truck finally after 15 years. The grass is definitely not greener on the other side.

I had the exact problem you are describing, dealer replaced the transmission lines thinking that was it. Then I researched, found the TSB above went back to the dealer and ive never had the problem since they did the TSB.

At PGM? Good luck getting them to do anything without presenting a suitcase of cash.
I have had my truck in 3 times for EPAS rattle, and they couldn't replicate problem each time. I was able to get it to rattle before even making it out of the lot. I gave up on that issue. Now my truck periodically has the 5.0 knock that I know they will just pass off as normal, or blame my wheels/tires, exhaust, aftermarket lights etc on creating issue.
They tried to void my warranty when I took it in for a non-functioning 110v outlet and rear slide switch because of my wheels/tires.

If you had the same noise I did and the TSB fixed it then I think a trip to my service manager is warranted. I tried to replicate the TSB rough shift into reverse but no luck there. Weather went cold and wet though, I will try some more when I can get things really hot and then it will rear it's head again.
I'm not into filing complaints here that go nowhere and do nothing. Canada doesn't back consumers much compared to some states. My word of mouth to friends and family will cost them more.
If the new brake kit (Power Stop Z36 Extreme Severe-duty Truck & Tow) lives up to it's reputation, and I can eventually get this TSB fix, and the timing chain issues don't occur I will probably stick with this truck until after the 5 year warranty period.
It has too many things I like to trade off onto something else unless I'm given a compelling reason.
I can deal with the fact that the majority of dealerships are not to be trusted. I had connections there that helped me out before but they moved on and now I'm dealing with strangers robbing me blind.
