Nuff said!!!
I love my Platinum and despite what others on here may say it is a very capable truck. Mine is 4x4 with 3.73 LS so I feel very confident it will handle the hauling/towing I have to do and the minor off-roading...but the kicker is we get to enjoy all those so called worthless features too!

Funny, I wanted an SUV for the versatility but my wife said we still needed a truck. We couldn't agree so she said I could get any car I wanted, as long as it was a half-ton truck. I bought a Platinum.

Excellent decision but for the sake of staying on topic would you mind elaborating on why you chose a Platinum over the other trims?

I did in post #85.

After I ruled out the other manufactures, I wanted all the extras the Platinum had that weren't available on the other models. I loved the black interior and it felt more luxury car-like. Since it's more of a commuter for us, we liked it best.

Oh yea, sorry. Just wanted to try and keep on topic. I made the decision for the same reason, daily commuter.

That's why ford makes all of these different models to suit everyone's taste, different strokes for different folks. I ended up buying an fx4 with luxury package but that does not mean in now way that I have anything against a lariat or a platinum or any model of an f150

I'd say you made a good choice especially after the test drive I took. Those trucks are sharp.

You challenged my claim and invited me to go to Ford's site and check build prices. And so I did just that and confirmed that you're wrong: there isn't a $4-5K price difference between the Lariats and Platinums as you claimed.

With this post I'll find out if you really are over it.
We all know that you (think) you are the smartest person in the room at all times. Seems like too many people have to try to break down everyone's posts for every tiny little fact. It gets really old reading that stuff.

The OP stated that Platinums cost $4,000 more when comparably equipped and I'm the bad guy for correcting that statement?

That's laughable.

When trying to comparably equip a Lariat to a Platinum you run into some issues. For instance, with the chrome package for the Lariat you can only have certain rims and mirrors. Now are those like the the ones on the Platinum? Also, the lariat has the off-road package option, the Platinum doesn't...so comparably equipped is a very realtive and tenuous phrase. They have simplified some of that for 2012 but there are still differences. HENCE them being two different models/trims.

The OP asked a simple question that has become very blurred...

I know what the specs say and what the listed difference are but what else made you spent the extra?
Simply wants to know what you get extra to justify the extra money. When I purchased in August Ford offered a $2k rebate on Lariats and a $1k on Platinums so there is an extra $1k right there. I also didn't get the "Lariat discount" on the moonroof and Nav so there's extra money. I got quotes from three dealers on what I considered comparably equipped Lariat vs Platinum and all were $4k-$5k more for the Platinum. I DONT GIVE A CRAP WHAT ANY OTHER MEMBER SAYS, insert the relative part here about comparably equipped, that was my personal first hand experience.

I chose the Platinum for the reasons already mentioned here...body colored bumpers, satin grille finish, 20" alluminum polished wheels, the Platinum tailgate, heated back seats, power running boards, memory everything(seats, steering, mirrors etc.) including power adjustable steering, rain sensing wipers, extra sound dampening, black trim with brushed metal looks super nice, ambient lighting(which is actually useful) and the biggest reason was because my test drive of a 2010 Platinum blew me away after driving two 2011 Lariats. Plus trade-in will be better on a Platinum.

The one and only thing I feel I had to sacrafice or compromise on was the off-road package. I won't have the e-locker or the shocks but I do plan on getting the skid plates. There goes that relative part of being comparably equipped again!

Anyhow...I can't put it any more simply than that!
