I test drove a platinum last week and it is light years from my 08 xlt. I've just about talked myself into it, but now I have to talk my wife into it, or I might just go buy it and not tell her about it.

Sometimes its better to ask forgiveness rather than permission?

Also, I was working a few weeks ago when a "Call of Duty" edition Jeep Wrangler wheeled up...girl opened the door and the running boards come down and the guy I was working with said "dude did you see that?" Funny part was that the running boards and cool *** Jeep was all we were talking about when we finally noticed the driver was a smoking hot blonde chick!
Same thing happened to me in the walmart parking. The guy told me to do it again and then he yelled to his wife in his truck that he wanted some running boards like that too lol

Haha and then the jeep suddenly disappeared!

I was a little hesistant about the running boards because my friends mom had a navigator many years back with power running boards and they were always so slow at coming out that I constantly tripped on them. These, however, are suprisingly fast.

"When it comes to heavy-duty payload or the off-road package, the Platinum is not in the game."

I am fairly certain (100%) that my 2011 Plat with the 6.2 has the heavy-duty payload. Unless you consider 11,300 to be light-duty?

I do agree with you, besides after she goes for a ride in the pickup I don't think I'll have any problems.

Yea we got the power running boards, the heated AND cooled front seats (which I absolutely love), the 20" better looking rims, the memory power everything (steering, pedals, seats etc.) and other things but the two biggest reasons we decided to spend the extra $$ and go with the Platinum is...

1) That butt ugly light wood grain in the lariats was a complete turn off! We both liked the interior of the Platinum way better. Actually liked the the interior of the Lariat Limited the best but didn't go with it for other reasons.

2) Every Joe Blow and his brother and cousin has a Lariat, not nearly as many Platinums around! I can count on one hand the number of Platinums I know of in my county and I only know of two in the neighboring county I work in. There's easily 100's or probably 1000's of Lariats in both counties! That reason and the trade-in value of a Platinum vs. a Lariat convinced us that it was very much worth spending the extra $$.

I feel 100% happy and satisfied with the decision I made and would make it again and again and again...BUT money was not as big a deal to us as it may be with others! We figured that being as this was my first full size truck and my dream vehicle that hell an extra $5k aint nothing when you are spending $50k! But at the same time we still justified it.
1) $4-5K difference? No they're not. Here is my window sticker.

A Platinum with the same feature set as above cost $800 more but with the Platinum, I didn't like the interior color selection, the metal trim on the tailgate and especially, the 20" wheels. So be it.

2) In the circles I travel, there are more Platinums than Lariats—but here is the kicker, I purchased a truck to do truck activities and if you're driving any kind of truck in my circles, you're viewed more so as the hired help or on your way to and from your lake home.

3) In Ford speak, the Platinum is a Lariat with a specific options package, as are the Harley and Limited editions.

My wife actually pushed me to go with the Platinum...and every time I talk about how much I like it she rubs that in!

I wish I had either of the trucks. All I have is a 1977 F150 custom xlt, a 1989 F350 xlt and a 1997 Explorer xlt. Nothing fancy but love them all.

I got two specific quotes comparing apples to apples exactly and the Platinum was just over 4k difference. If I remember correctly my sticker was just over $52k. I got a $1k rebate on my Platinum but could've got $2k on a Lariat. Don't care what your sticker is was or will be...that is the information I was given at three dealers!

Just built two 2012's...

Lariat just over $48k
Platinum just over $52k

Apples-Apples, same engine, cab, 4x4 etc. only diff was 2012 Platinum can't get 3.73, can on Lariat. Loaded the Lariat, go do it before you tell someone they're wrong.
