If I decide I don't like them, has anyone on here replaced theirs or know someone who has put something like the 5" tube steps on their platinum? I'll probably just keep em, but I'd like to find out.

So far, after only 1500 miles, I have had no problems. I have the Weathertech no-drill mud flaps, and they keep the steps reasonably clean for around town and dirt road driving. I haven't been in mud yet.

Fellow Platinum driver here. Had the same questions when I first got the truck, but after surviving a wonderful Wisconsin winter, all of my questions have been answered. Didn't matter how much snow we got, or how cold it got, they peformed flawlessly. I also have the bed steps, which froze all the time. Biggest concern that I had was them coming down on a passenger's ankle! I'm actually really impressed with how they're not slippery when you have snow on your shoes, and the fact that they get clean in the carwash even when stowed!

thanks to all for the advice. I'm going to keep the power boards and put the weathertech mudflaps on. Finally picking the truck up on saturday - bought it, went on vacation while they put the tonneau on and the bedliner in and now the mudflaps on. Excited to get in my new truck - putting a rock border around some flowerbeds so I think it gets to work on day one of its' new life. Will take and post some pictures.

Default Power Side Steps

One option I didn't see mentioned here is that you can disable the power
steps with on screen menu. There are 3 options, auto; always out, or off for wintertime, if you're worried.

There is no "always out" mode. As you say there is "auto" where the running boards extend and retract when you open and close a door and always "off" where they stay retracted but the "out" mode only puts them out temporarily (good for when you wash the truck or run it through a car wash) but they will then automatically retract again when you drive off and reach a speed of 5 mph and then default to "automatic" mode.

Although the screen menu has the <OUT> option, the running boards retract <AUTO> once you drive off.

It's not just a shift lever switch that triggers the <AUTO>. You actually have to be moving to over-ride the <OUT> selection.

Selecting <OUT> option while driving does nothing.

I suppose that is to protect the running boards from getting smashed when going over high angled driveways (and curbs).

Oops! It looks like I repeated what Pugnacious wrote.

Hi
I have a 2010 F150 platinum screw with the automatic running boards. I love driving it. It is my first truck. I bought it used with 20,000 miles. It runs great.
I am having trouble with the running boards. Sometimes the drivers side works and sometimes it does not. The passenger side works fine. I took it to the Ford dealer and they are ordering a new motor for it. They said it may take 2 weeks to get the motor. I hope it will solve the problem. So far Ford has been great and so is the Ford dealer I bought it from.

BTW I live in sunny Florida (no snow)
Anyone else having trouble with their automatic running boards?
