People make fun of me for sanding the flow master muffler and touching it up w/VHT silver paint when it gets spotty or rock scratches. I also re-paint the hitch/axle tubes black every summer after the winter destroys things with salt, once winter hits I just concentrate on keeping inside clean, can't be freezing up the doors all the time with car washes when its -20 out lol.
Its all in how you treat the vehicle, after all My truck is coming up on 4yrs old @ 77k Miles and it looks better than some of the new ones I see that people just don't care and trash the interior / exterior

I am the same way and let's not talk about my cobra! Always have detailer spray and cloth with me just to get any spots here and there. But I agree OP a clean truck is how I like to roll!

I'm with all the clean car people and the OP. I'll wash the truck in the rain! I even had a water softener and filtration system installed at my home to prevent hard water spots when washing my truck / fiancé's car. Took a while to get used to the feeling of hair and skin with a water softener, but that first car wash after install was awesome. I didn't have to constantly wet the truck then chamois quick before it dried in the hot FL sun.

I live on a gravel road and up a long and sometimes muddy lane. Hard to keep it clean but when I go out on business, I make sure it is newly washed. A nice clean vehicle makes a good impression on my customers.

meh, a truck is a truck. Sure, a nice truck shouldn't be all muddy, but it's not a show car. I was mine often in the winter, between snows/crappy weather. I wash it rarely in the summer. If it's all dusty and we don't get rain, it goes through the wash, but not unless it's good and dirty. I don't off road, so I'm not leaving boulders on the roof and spending a few hours each week on my DD is a waste of my time.
Now, my Trans Am gets different treatment. She lives under a cover in the garage most months out of the year. She gets a full detail 2x a year and washed every time she's put away. She's only out for a week or so every 3-6 mos. It's a 2002 and I think I'll poop a little when she rolls over the 40K mi mark. At 38k miles, she just barely lost her warranty, haha.
I understand the love for meticilus care, but I just don't have the time or desire to devote it to my DD, especially a truck. I used to detail my car weekly, and loved it. Now I just have other things pulling at my time. I've also always been of the opinion that a truck can earn a scratch or some dirt and still look good. However, I sure dont' want to take my 50K (when it was new) truck out where the 5k trucks roam. There's a difference between not being obsessed and not respecting your gear (or having the cash to replace it....this guy).

Same here. Once the season starts I can tell who uses their truck and who pretends by their dirt. I keep my inside clean, but during the deer season I really don't care about the outside. As fast as I can wash it it is muddy again. Catch me during the 3.5 months of summer and it will shine. I bought a truck to use as a truck. It doesn't run any better either way and I always take care of the mechanics. Never had one of my vehicles for less than 10 years 150-200K+ and never got rid of one for mechanical/rust/failure/etc. issues.
