Default Reverse lights (912/921)

Wondering if anybody has found a replacement bulb, most likely LED, that is better than running 921's in our reverse lights? I'm not interested in wiring up aux lighting for reverse because its just not needed for my use. I would like to replace my reverse bulbs with the most effective option out there. Supposedly the last generation of Philips 912 LEDs were pretty good but haven't heard of any good options recently. Currently I just run 921 bulbs for a marginal improvement.

You wont like this answer.
Changing bulbs wont give you much if any more light, the only true way to get more light is auxiliary light. Sorry!

I know the back up lamps suck dont they?

Yumps. It’s not the bulb itself, it’s the tail light housing. Poorly designed.

On the contrary, I get tons more light. Bought the highest lumen model from Diode Dynamics. Before doing that I had installed some lights under the bumper, but the cheap lights kept crapping out and I didn't want to spend $300 on Rigids.

The housing isn't that bad, here, buy some of these and run them, work great in mine and did improve rear visibility by a notable amount.

The housing could definitely be improved. I think the Ford designed it thinking that we would use the brake lights when we tap it as additional lighting needed while backing up - a bit annoying doing that.

I personally still don't think it's enough and will be adding an auxiliary lights under my rear bumper.

Amazon Amazon

Ive got these currently installed and I am very impressed with the output compared to stock. Only down side is the way the plug into the light socket. Its external of the light housing so over time the connection could become corroded. I filled the light socket with dielectric grease. Here are some night shots. The mirror shots are looking through about 35% tint

Reverse light and brake lights

Reverse lights and brake with window up and about 35% tint

Pass side with window up

Back up cam with just reverse lights

$25 NiLights off Amazon, wired into my reverse lights. A couple hours with a dremel + cutting wheel.

I put an LED with a focused beam/projector style bulb in. More lumens does provide better visibility but there still has to be something for the light to reflect off of. The issue is a 2 inch slot that is 4 feet off the ground only so much light is going to go where you need it. Better than it was but still went to under bumper mounted auxiliary lights on a dedicated switch so they double as work lights as well.
This is similar to what I have been using- https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...1427&year=2011
