Default Plastidip durability?

Been thinking about plastidipping my rims and have some concerns. I'm curious if people can share their thoughts or experience?

How will it hold up on gravel roads?

Iowa winters -- does sand, salt and road grime hurt?

Ease of cleaning -- Does brake dust collect on them more so than your standard rim?

Sounds like you want some powdercoating.

I plastidipped my rims for the sole purpose of protecting them from winter sand/salt eating away at the clear coat. They have been dipped for almost 3 months and are still holding up 100%. It's very easy to clean, just try to keep your distance with the pressure washer wand. I haven't done much gravel road traveling since I'm in the city for university this winter so I cant help there. All I can say is it isn't meant to be permanent, expect it to fail eventually.

I dipped the rims on my previous RAM truck, and it held up perfectly for over 2 years. I took the truck through the woods, mud, hunting, camping, fishing, pulled the camper, ran it all through the NW PA winters with snow, ice, salt, and god knows what else they dump on the roads. I cleaned with auto car washes and by hand. Never had an issue with pressure washers. I did i think 5 solid coats on each wheel. I'll post pics when I get home.

This is the day I did them. Back in 2011

This is the day before i traded it in.

its really easy to keep clean. i just wash with water and dry it off. also , when im putting tire foam on my tires i also spray some on the rims and clean the foam of the rims with a tshirt. it gives the plasti dip a nice glossy look. it holds up fine for me for traveling. no problems.

I plasti dipped my grill about 14 months ago. Still looks great without any chips or peeling. Rims bumpers and tailgate done 9 months ago and other then the rims peeling after I got my new tires put on, the bumpers are still good. Im sure the rims would be fine too but the guy that installed my tires said it was pretty much impossible to not scrape the edges while doing it. Oh well ill just have to get a couple more cans in the spring and redo them. Too bad its 15 bucks per can here in canada but well worth it. Protects original finish and looks sweet too
Heres a couple pics from a few months ago before my goodyear wrangler 285/70/17.

Plastdipped my stock rims a couple of years ago, mainly to keep the blacked out look of the truck during the WI winters when my aftermarket rims tires are off the truck. It's held up great, better than I thought it would. This is the second winter I have had them on. The clean up very easily. I would go take a pic but it's -10 F here with a -30 wind chill, so that's not gonna happen.

Mine are holding up since September through Iowa's nasty winter and several powerwashes. Wheels, rocker panels and grill.

I did the chrome step bars on my wife's truck. Other than a couple of spots that were torn with the heel of a shoe, they have held up well. Easy to fix too, just respray and your done. No problems with the tons of ice and snow we have gotten this year in Alberta
