Ok so mine overall was weird in that it would go away while raining.. Got me to thinking today this must be exterior though man it sounded like the door or hinge area...
So, climbed under today, grabbed step rail and started rocking it. tap, tap tap tap.... coming from the body bushing area...
Grabbed the trusty lithium spray grease cause it coats and does not run or drip off.... shake truck, spray, shake truck spray and finally the tap.... stopped...
I thought I have won before but this was clear sightline and ear shot of the "sound" that has made me break teeth from griting them.... cover every crack and joint with felt tape, drive the dealer nuts, my wife, my kids may have to have therapy from multiple ride alongs listening for the sound....
PLEASE really be it... OCD and sensory disorders already suck with out being harrassed by a sound....

Resurrecting this thread in hopes that someone can help me identify the cause of my consistent rattle/tapping from my drivers door. It seems to happen almost every day, but mysteriously there are some days it doesn't happen at all. I have duct taped the door lock mechanism and the white wiring clips (I could only find one?) but the sound continues. To my ear it really sounds like it's something vibrating against glass, but pushing on the window doesn't affect it at all, nor does pushing in on the door panel.
Here's a short video clip. Anyone else have this sound??

both doors and the dash on my wifes highlander rattles, loud. so far no issues with my '13 F150. the only good thing about being field artillery, is im half deaf so a rattle has to be loud for me to hear it.

Could be the mirror. I had a 2008 F250 that I had smacked mirrors with another truck. Physically looking at the mirror there was no damage. You should be able to tell by folding the mirror in. If that is the problem I had to replace my mirror to solve the problem.

My 2012 Crewcab had also this annoying noise from the driver's door. Exactly as described by most people on this thread. I looks like the noise was coming from the power Windows & door lock switches.
I decided to disassembled the switches from the door pannel to look at it and found white plastic wearing powder just under the switches wire harness and some more around the plastic tabs holding the switches into the door switches housing.
I removed the switch housing from the door panel and shaked it. I recognised the rattling sound so annoying.
I got rid of this noise by inserting some small pieces of foam 3/16 x 1/2 x 1 between the switches and the switch holder assembly. I also glued a thin layer of foam Inside the door pannel where the switches wires where rubbing.
I just regret not doing this before !
So quiet now.
