Dip is more forgiving than typical sprays, with that said you would want to use a spray gun for very large areas but the tailgate area being dipped shouldn't cause that issue if you put enough coats on. I would suggest using the spray nozzles at dipyourcar.com

if the dip looks good, why not just have the tailgate sprayed semi flat black paint (or whatever color)? then it will last much longer. i like the way it looks but im not a big fan of rattle can paint on a $50K truck.

The whole point of plasti dip or even vinyl wrapping for that matter is that its 100% reversible. So if you end up getting tired of it or don't like the looks of it. You just rip it off.

That is exactly what has me interested in it, to the point I looked it up on the dipyourcar.com website. I'm fine with the normal rattle can stuff on my wheel wells, axle and trailer hitch...but I wouldn't want to spray it on the paint and then decide...ooops.

This looks amazing! Did you by any chance paint your taillights as well? They seem a bit darker than stock to me..

Here's my cousins 05 I hadn't peeled the ford emblem in this picture but it has a pink and black overlay on it.

Yep, I smoked the taillights with nightshade. It looks much better with the tailgate panel dipped and kinda blends in.

Looks like you did a real good job . The previous gen tailgates I feel would be much harder to do since you don't have existing lines to tape off of to make a straight line like the 09's and up.

I agree that with the tail lights tinted it flows really well. On the 04-08 the bottom body line is there just not the top.
