Default Pirelli Scorpion ATR = Better driver

Since I posted last winter about my wreck on the first snow, we've been having a lot of rain this month. These tires are just fine on dry pavement, I never had an issue at all. But in just rain, I am slipping around. Even though I still really don't like these tires, I have to say that these tires actually have something really positive.

I am typically a somewhat aggressive driver. That is not a good thing, I know. But what I am finding with these tires if the pavement is wet, I find myself being a better driver. I don't take off quick at intersections, cause my tires would spin. I don't follow to close and slow down a long ways away from the vehicle in front of me, cause I am afraid the tires won't stop me. I take corners slow (especially if crossing the lane to turn left), cause the backend always slips out. I am just more alert when driving because I frankly don't trust the tires. My last truck had better tires, it performed about as good on wet pavement as it did on dry (well close) but nothing compared to these Pirelli's. I know tires will not perform the same on wet pavement but I had other tires and there is a difference.

I know there is always a lot of bashing about these tires, including from me but I was thinking about it today when I was driving with my wife and she mentioned how less aggressive, cautious and safer driver I was and asked me what changed....well the tires my dear. I think I will live longer with these tires and drive normal...and that is a good positive thing!!

I am getting the same vibes about my ATR's. I have Blizzaks on now but are the ATR's just temperamental? Do they require a little more caution then expected? Most people, including myself, drove the truck on the first day of winter with the mindset that it's going to be good on ice, since it's a 4x4 vehicle so it would handle better. So maybe next year I'll try the tires again on a winter's day and see how they do. The way I see it, Most of the 150's with 20's i see are running the stock tires on snow and I don't see that many in the ditch, plus my dad has the 22" Zero's on his Limited and I thought 100% that they would be worse, but either they're better or he's just an excellent driver. I dunno.

We'll see what happens. After the Blizzaks this year I don't know if I'll ever be able to change my winter driving mindset again, these tires go through anything.

No problems here drove a big snow storm from Canada to Ohio just fine and in the rain never had them slip once? I'm sure if I floored it from a stop they would spin but never felt the need to try that.

Never thought of that. Yep, no snow or ice needed to have fun in an "empty" parking lot. :-)

It's all good and well until that person in front of you locks up their brakes with their "better" tires and you can't stop in time and rear end them! Way to put a positive spin on them but those tires are seriously bad I'd rather have a tire that I know is going to grip when I take a corner or have to stop quick, a lot less stressful! So far my new Duratracs are doing great. Tomorrow will be the test though, looks like I'm going to have a two hour drive on the highway to our hunting camp in the rain. Sure glad those Pirelli's will be sitting in the garage!

The Pirelli's I have are one of the worst set of tires I've ever had. With only 18,000 miles on the truck the tires are the roughest riding tires I've had. The tread is not wearing very well either. If I get 25,000 miles out of them I will be lucky.

Mine are sitting in my garage with 2k miles on them. Maybe I'll use them as bumper's on the boat dock or as a tree swing.

Not sure...but I don't have any complaints about mine at all. I have just over 23K on the Limited and have very even tire wear. Granted...we got just a trace of snow this year, but even with all of the rain, I haven't had any problems with traction.

3000 miles on my fx4 with the 20" stockers and I would say they are a good tire in the rain. We have had plenty here in San Antonio this year and I have not felt the truck lose the rear end bad once. They are way better than the goodyear GSAs I had on my Dakota.
