Default "Piranha Steps" Custom FX4 Running Board Steps

I was snapping of the silly plastic inserts on my FX4 running boards. Plus, they were slick as heck. And, they're $20 each to replace!

Had a few bourbons and cigar and thought up the "Piranha Step".

I removed several of the plastic do-dads and fabricated a steel prototype step that bolts right into the stock holes. Good drainage, good traction and a boot scraper!

Think I'll do the full running board for both sides if they continue to work as well as this prototype does now.

Is that grading that's you would use to cover a hole or ditch?

Nope, but I did look at a lot of samples of grating before I decided to make this. That material was way too tall and attaching would have been a PIA.

I think my final steps will be made of aluminum, have one more row of grating and I'll powder coat them flat black or line-X?

Line-X will make your steps pretty much indestructible. I covered mine in Line-X Premium a couple of years ago and they still look like new! I love the look of yours, your mod to them and then having the whole step covered in Line-X would look bad ***! I'll try and post a picture of mine this evening, I have to clean them up first before getting pics, just returned from the muddy hunting camp in Bama this past weekend!

I really like how the bars are offset from the square holes to allow for good drainage.

Since this one is working out so well, I've decided to cover both running boards with the Piranha steps.

I'm in the process of removing all the Ford plugs and having new steps fabricated. I'll have 2) Piranha steps for each running board for full length coverage, except for the center pad step.

Going all aluminum with flat black powder coat.
