pinion seal leaking

Yeah definitely check your new truck, mine leaked at 1200 miles on my 13. Can go anytime apparently, been fine since. I just figured my ecoboost was to blame, torque monster.

Yeah - I don't think this is that "uncommon" - I just think a lot of people don't check it and/or it gets missed at oil changes (its in the back & not the front after all). My vehicle has 37k on it - and I went under to look into the whole "click click" issue when I reverse (someone suggested blasting the coupling with WD40) and noticed mine is leaking too...Gonna hit the dealer on the way home to have it checked out & will see if they cover it under powertrain...or give me grief for non-factory wheels/tires...

Usually fix these things myself but took to dealer so it will show in my service history just in case something blows up later. In and out same day and I'm sure all will be fine. Great truck so far.

Out of several issues I took my truck in for today (manure smell from vents, click-click noise in reverse, clickity clickity sound that occasionally happens on startup) - THIS is the only one they said "We see a lot of these" and covered it under warranty on my 2013 FX4 at 40,000 miles. Guess I should be happen something got fixed - although I kinda expected negative results on the other issues based on all the threads I've seen for those issues.

Just hit 326,000 kms on my 09 , very slight weep from pinion seal, nothing on driveway. It's the 9.75 rear end , posi 3.73 gears.
After 3 hr drive one drip starts to form. The oil is full synthetic 90w140 in the rear, which doesn't leak that easily like the 75w90 semi synthetic in the front diff. Changed the oil in both last year, I'm not original owner, not much history on truck.
Changing that seal is a big job, changed one on my jeep years ago.
Won't worry about it until it gets worse.
