Learned to drive in upstate NY winters with a two wheel drive regular cab long bed. My dad used to add a couple of ~110 pound old tractor wheel weights to the bed. Now I have a supercab 2WD with all-terrain tires and added 2 bags of play sand and I bag of salt. No problems getting out after the storm with 10-12 inches of snow. Well there was a spinout in the virgin snow at the supermarket; you can take the boy out of NY, but not the NY out of the boy. Before you dismiss that, having a fresh feel for how much (or little) it takes to skid and how hard it is to counter the skid is useful. And just drive defensively, watch the other drivers, cross roads, etc.

Agreed, the best thing you can do is go to a parking lot and practice maneuvers when the snow falls.

i lived in upstate ny till i was 23. i lived out in the bonnies and used to screw around in my high school parking lot sliding around so it got me used to loosing control. i never put weight in the bed, just always had good tires.

now i live in Oklahoma and we get snow seldom and i rarely have to use 4wd. i mostly use the 2wd and will lock the diff if needed. i just installed falken wildpeak at3 which are blizzard rated, so we will see how they do this winter.

Fishtailing a 40' bus is fun. Especially when you are ahead of the front tires. They can plow thru stuff but stopping can be scary. All you do is slide towards the curb

Been living in Alaska for the last 11 so I know winter driving and agree with all of you about not driving like an idiot. Wasn't sure about the pickup aspect but you guys have enlightened me. I was curious as to how the stock scorpions do in the winter. I have a cap on the back of the screw. I had a S10 ZR2 for 10 years and rarely had to use 4wheel drive. It had 32" BFGs all around, and the G80 in the back. I could put it sideways whenever i wanted. Never added weight to it.

The other day i was going down some back roads in the screw and tried putting it sideways a couple times on purpose, but couldn't. I plan on replacing the stock tires before next winter, but figured i can easily make it through this winter, but i am still curious as to the winter performance of these tires.

They are not the best for winter, where in the mitten are you?
