Ok, after reading this thread over and over and over I finally decided to try this on my tail lights.. I have a white 12' FX4 and have all my badges and ford emblems flat black. So with that being said I decided to paint the edges of my tail lights flat black.. It took me almost 6 hours to finally get paint in all the little cracks and evenly spread out.. I can't wait to see what they look like on the truck tomorrow and I hope I didn't make a mistake with my color choice..

Anyone else went this route with the color?

Any thoughts if I might have screwed up?

Post pics when you get done with the flat black. I'm thinking I might do something similar.

I would get 2 just to be on the safe side. I got 1/2 pint of rust-oleum industrial paint from Lowe's and only used about 1/4th of the bottle

Unless you are applying the paint on the outside of the light, you can not use white paint. There is glue in there and white will look all uneven. The only color you can use is black, if you want to apply the paint on the inside.

Ok got them back on the truck this evening and they look good.. I used flat black paint but because its behind the plastic it still made the paint look somewhat glossy.. But all in all it turned out good.

Now that I have a white F150, the clear tails just blend in with the white.

Now, when I had the RED F150, the black outline looked awesome.
