Default paint chip.....rust?

hi all,

first time poster, but have been lurking for several months. Bought a 2013 FX4 screw a few months ago and am loving it so far. first truck ever!

today while i was washing it i noticed a paint chip on the front bumper. it's not big, but it looks like it is rusting?? not too sure, but hopefully my picture shows up and some more knowledgable members can chime in.

i have a few questions though. if the chip is indeed rusting will Ford do anything for me under warranty? I read the warranty manual, but i read a few conflicting sections regarding paint/rust/etc.

also, if it is indeed rusting and Ford won't do anything, do i just buy some touch up paint? will the touch up paint prevent the rust from spreading?

any advice would be much appreciated!

Quite out of focus and nothing next to the "spot" for scale.
The chip was most probably caused by something hitting and chipping the paint. The result of that damage is now rusting. Think of hitting a deer. Lots of damage and bent metal bits. At the time of the damage there was no rust and sometime later now there is rust. Should Ford pay for that rust as well?
Get the touch-up paint.

Check with your dealer, they may fix it for ya with no cost to you. Its worth a try. If not just get some touch up paint and it should be fine.

Paint chips are out of any manufacturers control. And shouldn't be under warranty. Much like if you got hit, or scratched your truck.

But...with that being said, your dealer may have a special deal. The dealer i work at, will cover stone chips for up to 12k miles. That is not typical for any dealer to do, and you have to have bought your car/truck from us.

Thx all for the replies. I didn't think it would be covered under warranty, but never hurts to inquire. I'll stop by the dealership this week and buy some touch up paint.

If rock chips bother you, get it fixed, then apply a clear bra to protect the front of the hood and fenders. It is completely worth it to me, because I hate rock chips. I would use Durashield or 3M products since I have had great experiences with them, and they have good warranties. The clear bra will cost you $500+ depending on the deal you get, but considering that removing a rock chip from your hood and making it look like it was never there will cost you $500+ depending on where you get it done, it is worth it. Good luck.
