Just remove the door sills (gently) and fold the carpet back is all I did..You don't have to do this you can run your wires and coax any way you like I'm just **** about having everything all hidden and tucked away..

As for grounding if your not running an amp I would just attach a ground strap to the tool box or the antenna mounting bracket (even better) and go straight to the frame....Make sure you use a Dremel or grinder to clean up the frame you want to attach the ground strap to bare metal for best ground...With just a basic CB you could probably skip the ground strap but it is a good idea, grounding never hurts !!

ETA Jammit types faster than I do !!!!!!!!! LOL

The only drawback to grounding toolbox straight to the frame is that the ground strap gets kind of long, which makes it an antenna! The shorter the ground strap segments, the better. Most people wouldn't notice or care, actually....This is getting pretty 'nerdy' in the antenna theory space, but it can be relevant here - CB is 11 meter, and there is a TON of traffic on teh 10 meter HAM bands...a 2 or 3 foot segment of ground strap actually can become problematic in some locales, and none at all in others. For practical purposes however, in most cases, any ground is better than no ground!

yes I agree 100%, I didn't want to get to involved with a CB install and confuse him or others that aren't really "into" radios..

Your posts read like you are a Ham, yes ??

KC9QHR is my ham callsign. You can see my truck and install here http://forums.radioreference.com/rad...ml#post1724946 Make sure to scroll to the end!

The ham guys give me crap for running/playing with CB, but I don't care. That's how I got my start in radios back in the 70's as a little kid.

Hey me again haha. Here's a set of pics of my wiring setup. The colors are from my kcs do don't mind them. And the hole in the grommet is just on the inside side. Do not make a big hole. Just use a coat hanger with the wires taped to the back to push then pull it through to maintain the seal and not let gas in the cab. I would also recommend a cigarette lighter adapter it makes it much easier and that way you only have to worry about the speaker wire going into the engine bay. As for the coax. Run it under the steering wheel console and use some poxy or any glue to keep it under the weather stripping over te door then run it out of the back of the rear door to the bed. It looks good that way. Good luck and sorry for the atrocious grammar haha

The only ham I do anymore is 2m simplex and a occasional local repeater..

I'm getting ready to install a X Force straight 4 pill in my truck powered by the Ranger listed in my sig line..

I still enjoy 11m and prefer it in most cases..

Nice. One trick you might want to try is to run a 3' 1/8 stereo cable from the CB's ext speaker out jack down behind the dash and up into the aux in. just like you'd do an ipod.

The very bottom piece of the console (the one that is about 2 inches tall), just below the sync inputs and the cig lighter pops out super easy, and that cable can fit in the gap. You could do that for under $10 and maybe 30 minutes work.

CB speakers suck, especially down firing ones when they're dash mounted like yours and mine. An external speaker makes listening SO much nicer with lower volume and clear audio. See my install on radioreference (linked above). A very clean and functional mod, with the great additional benefit that the CB audio mutes when a phone call comes in!
