Default P0626 code and "check charging system message"

Hi guys, I have 2009 F-150 4.6l V8, VIN 1FTRW14819FB06365,

Besides other problems on this truck I'm getting P0626:00-D0 CMDT code, and I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with it. I checked my voltage, withing 14.2v range but sometimes jumps up to 14.6v (a little high?). I don't know when the alternator was replaced, and truck was sitting for over a year. Could anyone share diagnostic procedure for this code or any advice?

P.s. Also I have B1342 code for Abs module, any tricks to check it if it's the actual module or something else may be off before sending the module to be rebuilt?

Advance auto parts can put a machine on it for free and it will diagnose the alternator. Beyond that, there could be some intermittent issue (open or short in the wiring, wiggle things around), also check all body ground for corrosion.

Thanks, I already checked the corrosion, will try to drop off alternator for test. Is that code related to a voltage regulator or not? Could it be just bad voltage regulator? Like, if voltage jumped higher than normal threshold and that caused the code? At this point I'm just guessing but I don't really want to spend money replacing everything without knowing where's the problem.

Welcome!

P0626
  • Faulty alternator.
  • Bad battery.
  • Damage or corrosion on alternator control module circuit.
  • Bad wiring somewhere in the vehicle.
  • Poor communication between alternator control module and powertrain control module.

Advance sends a guy outside, and can test the alt on the vehicle. This is a better test. You can always take it off and have them spin if you want to confirm..
Sometimes voltage could be good but there could be ripple in the alternator. There are a few things in the thread to check for that code. But it seems like it is a fault in the alternator field windings. Field issues could be battery , alternator related (diodes) or the field coil itself. Alternator is a feedback system that uses some of the battery power and its own generated power to bootstrap and regulate itself.

If the alternator was not OEM I'd be suspicious.
